Recoil Rope Diameter

It's not the rope

New ropes breaking is not a diameter issue rather a snagging issue. Rope is 3/16-1/4". You have to use braided rope that can withstand gas, oil, and grease not clothes line rope from True Value. Start looking for rough points near the rope's path or on the inside of the recoil cup.

In regard to replacing a recoil rope, what are the opinions / pros or cons to soaking the rope in mineral oil before installing?

Thanks doo dr. I have the handle and rope and wanted to be sure of size and i understand the type needed. On the sabercat i have a rub spot but see no other way to route the rope but will try again.sled has electric start but gear at flywheel snapped shaft and a looks like a motor puller to change it.nothing but trouble.on my 2000 zr500 it just gave out.older sled but low/low miles. Oh well;at least i have something to do while it rains.thanks again.

That was years ago when there was more cotton than synthetic fiber in ropes. Now you want them as clean as possible but expect them to get soiled.

I have used soft copper tubing to protect rough areas or bad routing. Flare the ends with gas line flaring tool or use a cone shaped punch to flare it out. Good luck and stay dry
