My family and I were able to visit my son for the Navy's "adopt a sailor" program for Thanksgiving. He has completed basic training and heading to FL for 5 weeks of schooling for aviation ordnance job. He lost 13 lbs. He wasn't heavy at 182 going in but is now at 169. He is a good kid and I am so happy and proud. He is no longer a recruit, he's a Sailor.

Very Cool! Sounds like he might find himself arming munitions aboard one of the big carriers fairly soon.

Congats Lenny, and like I said earlier, "welcome to the club". You and your wife have instilled great values in your son, and you are now starting to reap the benefits. Feels good doesn't it?......

It does feel good for different reasons but the fear is still there. At one point he wanted to be involved in disarming IED's and I am so glad he has went into the AO field. I mean I feel bad for anyone involved in IED work. It is hard because these guys are so young and have not developed much wisdom. They are trained and trained well but the lack of wisdom keeps them at a disadvantaged no matter how much training. It's such a shame that in the world today, force is still the strongest option in dealing with differences. Will man ever walk away from such a thing?

X2!!!

Our oldest son graduated from Great Lakes in December 2007. Went on to the Nuclear Power A School in a very mysterious location in S. Carolina for 2 years of schooling. He is now a nuclear electrician on the attack sub "U.S.S. Key West" stationed @ Pearl Harbor. He maintains the reactor that powers the sub..

We are very proud of all of our military sons and daughters!!!

As other have expressed, please thank your son for protecting our freedom. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." T Jefferson. My Nephew and I wrapped up a successful Oneida Co. deer hunter last week while he was on leave before he departed for Afghanistan Monday Nov 28. This is his second tour with the 2nd Marine Division, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Battalion. He's the one on the right, taken near Copper Harbor Jan. 2011

wow, It is so good to put a face to someone in the military, it makes it real personal, man,,,, thanks so much for posting that. It's a shame that it took me to have a son in the military before I saw the total picture. I'm a little ashamed of that but now I feel much better about the whole thing and am happy to support programs that help soldiers. Wounded warriors is a great cause and needs all of our help. These guys give life and limb literally.

I will relay the message of thanks from those and please thank your nephew for me. I recently have meet a few veterans and I thank every one of them as best as I can.

great picture of a warrior!!!!!!

I'm with you. We all need to remember those that service. My sister always buys a soldier lunch/dinner when traveling through an airport. I buy a couple cocktails - It's just the right thing to do. Don't let um pass you by without a thank you. Think USO too. Here's a dedicated Uncle.
