Buddy of mine that lives in Indy went to the U,P to ride this past weekend he asked me where to rent from so i told him Picklemens Perf in Newberry because this is where we take people to rent when we bring friends he got he sno pro 500 said he was very pleased with the sled and the easeof renting it but since trails were not epen yet they tailered out to mass city to ride while eating someone must have got a little crazy in the parking lot and looks like they put a ski into the plastic on the side of the sled only cracked it pretty good so no holes or nothing but anyways he took it back on sunday to turn it in and they charged him 150 bucks for damage now i can undersrand that but he said almost instintly they were drilling 4 holes in it and threading zip ties through the holes and put a sticker over it??? Keep in mind this is how it was relayed to me. Ive never had a problem with my sled getting messed up or anything so i didnt know what to tell him.. My question is. Is this a typical thing to see done?? Sorry bout the length just curious ive never had a problen and we have been going there for a longtime..

That is what they usually do. Granted, he did do the damage and should pay, but if he paid, he should have the wrecked part in hand unless they didn't charge him for the whole thing. If they only charged him a percentage of the total cost to replace it, I would consider it a done deal, learned a lesson type of situation. But, if the $150 is the cost for a new panel, he should ask for the wreck panel. Sometimes you can sell them to someone that cannot afford a new one but slight damage will work fine, this will at least recoup some of the cost.

So what are you saying if he did not see how they repaired it,he would have been satisfied with what they charged him. How they repair a rental is entirely up to the owener since he is the one who will suffer the loss on resale. And that's what your buddy paid for.

$150.00 for anything on a snowmobile is like free, i just hope they dont try and blame another customer for it and charge them the same. the zip ties should be a good giveaway, hopefully a temporary fix until the new panel arrives.

Well said! A renter is responsible for the dollar amount of the damage. How the owner chooses to repair it is of no concern to the renter, since you are responsible for the loss in value to the owner due to the damage done.

I had a friend roll a rental and they gave him the parts they replaced. If he paid for the part he should get the broken one.

maybe they had sled rented next day and have to order parts. I worked at sled rental place and u would be surprised what people try to bring back crashed !had one guy rent a sled go to bar ,get hammered, go outside, take a familys second sled and ride all weekend and then drop off ! family go without all weekend cause they thought someone stole their 2up indy!! The 2 sleds didnt even look the same, guy was that drunk !!

It is nice to see a rental biz replace the part you break and pay for. However, when you rent a sled you agree to pay for damages, therefore, it's up to the owner to repair the sled how he wants. Very possible sled was going back out and no parts in stock...

Hate to say it but the decals on a hood probably add up to almost $100! I would say $150 for a hood is probably quite a bit less than the replacement cost + labor so I wouldn't complain. I park as far away as i can----seen many crazy things happen in parking lots and near gas pumps--usually not much snow on the ground and steering isn't real good with a couple inches on a hard surface! I have had skis run over by carbides and all sorts of stupid stuff. Take your saddle bags etc in too to be safe---(doesn't make the restaurant owners too happy when you haul stuff in but if you stash under your table or something they usually understand.)

$150 and how it was repaired is nothing. My kids are professional " test riders". We have been renting & smashing sleds for years. We ride 3 of our own and always rent 1 and sure enough something always happens. ( Started smashing up pickleman bumpers -tunnels-flaps years ago... ) I have rented from a family owned business in WUP for several years. We walk in at sled turn in and come clean right away. ( This - that- the other thing - oh yea and this too - ect... ) The 1st year of doing business with them, when I did this, the owners wife ( whom has now passed ) walked out to me & my son, and said " Thanks for telling the Truth ". To me that was such a invaluable lesson for my son to experience that I can't be grateful enough. If you borrow somebodies equiptment and bust it up, you need to pay up. We bust up 200-500 dollars in the blink of an eye. If the rental place really wanted to mess with you or they would by chance catch you trying to pull something over on them , they would charge you for every little part, decal, and labor. Just some food for thought. The sled rental business has to be a tough 1.

I would have to agree that this would be a temporary fix until the new panel arrived. I do believe they try to sell some of their rental sleds each year. I know last year i talked to them about buying one of the sno pro 500. I have been buying parts from them throughout the fall during my ZR900 rebuild and they have been very good to deal with, even offered to let me borrow special tools to complete the job. $150 does not sound too bad for a cracked up hood.

Wether they replace the part right there or at the end of the season you have to take responsabilty and pay for your damage. It's amazing how creative people get when they dont want to take responsabilty and pay up for what they've done. Sometimes it's hard not to just laugh at them and give them a hi five for coming up with the story! Trust me, most rental places get burnt more often than not when it comes to damage. I had a kid tell me that the engine light started flashing on a 4 stroke then the motor locked up and he slid off the trail and hit a stump wrecking the front bulkhead...RUINED MY WHOLE DAY OF RIDING MAN! Funny how the motor magically fixed it's self and ran fine and he didn't get back until the end of the day...weird! The guys that come clean right away and say "man, I did some damage" INSTANTLY get my respect and usually a deal. Now I've also heard the horror stories about the customer getting ripped off to, so yes I know it goes both ways.

someone brought up a good point. They probably charged you for the zip ties, stickers, and an hours worth of labor to total the $150.

Chad: I would be laughing my tail off if I heard stories like that. You should have stickers made up that say something like, best b.s. rental damage story this year, lol.

My kids buy zip ties and oversized head rivets in bulk for their sleds. $150 is cheap. You don't want to know what it cost me to fix a brand new 800 RMK belly pan that I hit a stump with out to Togwotee. I had a thousand dollar deductable on that rental. I turned it in wearing a "Ride it like a Rental" shirt on, They gave me another new one and away I went. They let your friend off easy. I would rent from them.

No way would I ever get into a sled rental business. I am really good at wrecking my own stuff - I don't need any help. It has to be a new nightmare every day. Maybe if you were an ax-murderer in your previous life you have to come back and rent sleds this time around.

to me, "ride it like it's a rental" means take extra care so you don't have to pay for damages.i can only imagine burning one down now you own a couple thousand dollars. or messing around on rolling one with the price of parts 150 sounds really cheap.where did you say you rented that sled? i might have to rent from them.lol

ahh... yea we burned 1 up a little. I'm much more comfortable talking about smashing things up. Over in another thread there talking about " gravitational phyics " way too much for my feeble mind.
