I just did this

I just replaced both grips on my wife's GTX. Just used the Ski-Doo replacement parts.
I went through the following sequence to get them off.

I assume you've got the throttle housing or switch box out of the way, and some slack in the wires.

First, just put 2 hands on and see if you can get a good twist on the grips. One of them on mine came off pretty easy after the initial twist.

For the second one, I tried heating it up with a hair dryer. Didn't really do much so....

I resorted to a little force. Take an open end wrench that fits over the steel of the bar but not over the grip itself. I believe it is either 7/8's or 15/16's that worked. With the wrench straddling the bar, take a hammer and lightly tap on the wrench near the grip and it will slide right off.

There are other tricks i've heard of, but this approach always worked for me.

If you are installing the OEM ski doo replacement grip, you will need to feed the wires through the plastic tubing down to the connector block. You might not need to remove the switch housing, and the throttle block doesnt come off w/o the grip out of the way, so no need to try. The inside of the throttle housing has a plate that comes off with a small screw behind the throttle cable. To remove grips, if they don't rotate and pull off, just use a sharp utilty knife to cut along the length of it, it will split open and come right off. You will have to push pretty hard w/ the blade to cut through the hard plastic liner inside the grip. The new grip may have to be "pursuaded" to go on with a block of wood and hammer. Should'nt take a lot, just a few taps to seat it in position.

I've generally had good luck using a little force while twisting. However, I had difficulty this summer changing the grips on my motorcycle so decided to use my air compressor. I just wedged the tip of the air nozzle between the grip and the bars and gave it a couple bursts of air while pulling. Worked great! I also used the same technique to get the new ones back on.

Good luck!
