replacing oil line

this is for a 2006 SaberCat

My oil line on the bottom of my motor (coming out of the oil pump) has a pretty bad "rub area" and a good portion of it has worn away so I want to replace it.

Question can I use any type of fuel hose that has the same I.D. or do I need to replace it with the cat hose?

Second question......the hose is only about 3" long do I need to prime the hose and if so how?

the hose I need to replace is part #10

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks

You don't have to use the OEM cat hose. I would use a clear line that you can see the oil in. The problem alway's is " can you see it ". They are normally burried and some sled manu's have shielding over the line to prevent from rubbing/vibration ect.... You could premix some fuel to be safe or get a coat hanger / or piece of wire and pull the pump lever to WFO position once you start the motor. This should get the oil flowing to the case. Just a couple of suggestions. Check with a mirror & flashlight if it is hard to see. I never had a oil pump " vapor lock " before.

Hook the line to the oil tank, add oil, let the oil run through and out the end of the line, now attach it to the pump. That's all there is to it. Good luck

thanks guys, had to come into work this morning for a few hours, but going sneak out early to get it fixed.

Was looking at every thing in general (under the motor the other night) and I could not believe all the hoses that are rubbing on other items.

The hose running from the heat exchanger directly to the motor is rubbing on corner of the motor (yup another pretty good rub area). I have always been a cat rider but I personally believe they tried to cut a few to many corners on the 06 Fircats and Sabercats.

Any one that has a 06 Firecat or Sabercat I would drop the center belly pan (only 10 or 12 screws) and give it a good look over. A little gardge time and a cold beverage is a lot better then a problem on the trail. The above problems are on the wife's Sabercat. But I also noticed a few areas on my 06 Firecat.

Wrap all the hoses you can get to with that hard plastic wire loom covering. (black corrugated stuff), I have done it to Polaris sleds on the cooling hoses for a while now. Check with a local junk yard, I am sure they would give you a few chunks.

There is also something called " Heli Tube " it is a spiraled covering that comes in different diameters. It can be purchased at " Industrial Supply " distributor. I have some AC & Polaris rubbing issues. Biggest problems ( for me )are the " F " chassis cats and the wiring harness.
