Respectful Holiday Weekend Sled Traffic

While we were riding this long holiday weekend in northern Vilas county, I was surprised how respectful the groups of other riders we encountered were. Most groups used hand signals, slowed down, stayed on there side. It was nice to see. Usually holiday traffic can be pretty obnoxious.

I was pleasantly surprised with that as well. I was riding in the Keweenaw from Wednesday the 31[SUP]st[/SUP] through Saturday the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP]. Not one close call. LOTS of groups riding as a family and with kids. It made for a really nice few days of riding.

I experienced the same north and east of Mercer. TONS of sleds, great trails in the mornings were pretty beat up by evening, but the groomers were rolling all over and with all the sleds up there did a great job. Not one close call, and we rode pretty hard when we rode. Didn't see one instance of a sled on the wrong side of the trail, except me running the last road down to the flowage to save the left ski with a nearly toast carbide!

Same here I was up from the 27th through the 3rd and for the most part no problems. Just had 1 guy a little fast into a corner but it wasn't that close so over all good safe week.

I ran across quite a few inconsiderate sledders in Vilas County between December 27 and Janaury 3. My daughter rides pretty slow so when ever I noticed a group coming up behind us, I would pull over and wave her over to the side and to stop behind me so the group could get by us. Can not even count the number of times most, if not all the riders in the group passing us (while stopped pulled way over to the side) would completely roost us. Come on, I am going out of my way to let these groups pass and they pull that stuff.

But Mike, haven't you read? We (families trying to pass on the tradition) are the inconciderate sledders.

Been riding Vilas Co for years..... This year I booked 1130 miles from the 26th to the 2nd and it was delightful...... I actually had the thought while riding New Years day how respectful the sledding community has been this busy holiday season. The one thing that stood out besides the higher than normal traffic was all the families that were out riding.....awesome to see. Not sure where Ricky racer was, but it was nice this time around.

I rode most of Vilas last weekend. The amount of 2up sleds and families out was very noticeable. Saw quite a few kids on what was likely their 1st trail rides with mom and dad. Traffic was crazy but the sledders I saw weren't. Everyone must have went home on Sunday. Felt like I had the place to myself.

X2... We took our 14 yr old daughter on her first big UP trail ride from Wed 31 - Sun 4th in the Bergland area. No issues and she did great. The wife and I also commented on how nice it was riding and how everyone was pretty decent. Quality family time is priceless.
