Rest in Peace, Merle

Here's an item that didn't make much noise this week with all the politics in the news.

Legendary Merle Haggard died this week, he was 79 and passed away on his birthday. For the Millennials his music will sound simplistic, maybe corny and it is compared to today's tunes. His music came from a far different time in America, different morals, different standards, really a different place altogether. For us older guys that grew up in the 60's and 70's we heard his music on the radio. My dad listened to Country radio back then and I hated it, I'd switch the station every chance I got. Despite that, I became familiar with a couple of his songs that have stayed with me over the years. The best way I can describe Merle's music is to compare it to your favorite pair of shoes or overcoat, they just feel right when you put them on. Merle sang about life that touches all of us from time to time, songs about mama, trucks and trains, prison, drinking and life in general. He was a story teller and he told some good ones. Rest in Peace, Merle. Here's a couple of my favorites...

I'm one of the weird 29 year olds that grew up listening to Merle, Waylon, and junior. He will be missed
