rider communication systems

We're looking into in-helmet communication systems and there are lots out there. Anyone have thoughts on some good ones that won't break the bank? We trail ride with some licensed young riders (13-15) and I'd like to communicate with them primarily for safety purposes. Thoughts?

I have young riders 12 / 13 years old. Get the Colet Communicators, I have 3 of them. Order the kit for your exact helmet.

What I've learned is that anything worth having costs $$$. Good ones don't come cheap.

Could not agree more with groomer driver. I myself have tried 3 different kinds and the collet were the best especially due to groomer beacon, but honestly I personally did not care for any of them. Found after a couple hours especially the colder it got the worse they operated. Son who was about 14 at the time would get very frustrated with their lack of clarity. I sold them as was very disappointed. We currently do not use any because the were more of a distraction then any help!

I have 3 collet communicators, complete with everything. We used them with a group that no longer rides. Thought they worked great so long as you didn't get to far apart. Lead rider would warn others of incoming sleds and you could hear the groomers from a ways off. I listen to an iPod now. That said, they are yours for the taking. You pay shipping or meet somewhere. Let me know.

What a generous offer! Thanks...I'll gladly take you up on it. Given that you're in MI and I'm a WI rider, I'd be happy to pay for shipping. Send me an email with your address and I can send you a check for the shipping? Thoughts? I'm at joseph.lackner@ey.com

Model I have (only one I have tried)
Cardo Systems - Scala Rider G9

I find them all to be useless on the trail (high speeds). Need some good foam on microphone and out of wind. Setting the voice activation to where u pretty much have to yell to activate.

Off trail lower speeds busting pow I love using them. u do hear the occasional pipe but for most its pure comedy. Obviously this depends on who you are talking to - riding with.

If you ride hard on the trails, don't waste your money. Hand and arm signals work best. My brother and I had the collet system and it was hard to hear. If you ride a little slower with a group, there could be some use to this. Just my two cents.

OP was inquiring due to riding with young riders 13 and 15. IMO a must for that.
