Riding from South Range Dec 26 - 31. Must See locations?

So my wife and I staying at the refuge cabins in South range from Dec 26-31st. Although I have ridden north of Calumet years ago, I am not familiar with the area below Houghton/Hancock. So I was wondering if anyone had any good loops or "must see" destinations we could hit from South Range. To keep the wife happy I am trying to plan 4 different loops around 150-160 miles each day, but she has done 200 with me before. So besides taking her to Copper harbor and back one day, what other loops or locations should I consider? Can we make it to Lake in the clouds and back? What about Big bay? I was thinking 4 days and 4 directions, but not sure the snow will be good heading south. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks

Lake of the clouds is a must see. I've always thought it was somewhat difficult to get to big bay. Trail system from south range to big bay always seemed lack of snow and not well maintained. There is the freda loop which is fun too. Good luck and have fun!

I concur as to Lake of the Clouds - its about 85 miles, one way, from South Range. But its a fairly wide-open UP trail, especially the Bill Nichols Trail (#3). I'd also suggest a ride to Bond Falls, which is about 70 miles from South Range, one way. There are multiple trails you take take to either destination, so you're not backtracking. Not sure I'd call either trip a "loop", however. Of course, Lake Gogebic is worth seeing - that's about 70 miles from South Range as well.

South Range to Big Bay is a good 200 mi day, trail 14 from L'Anse to Big Bay is awesome....

the 13 loop from Krupps Twin Lakes to Greenland is also a great 40 mi loop, then you can continue to Ontanogan/Lake of Clouds from there.

a loop down 109 to Sidnaw and back thru Bruce Crossing and Mass City would be a nice day ride, too

Bond Falls or the Rousseau Bar

I agree with all of the above. Bond Falls near Paulding about 8 miles north of Watersmeet is beautiful in the winter and they have a very nice, relatively new walkway around the falls to get to see the falls. A pretty nice loop might be trail 3 down to Paulding and take the road to Bond Falls. Then take trail 107 north to Kenton, stop at Hoppy's. From there, you could take trail 8 west back to trail 3 near Bruce Crossing and head back. You could also go east from Kenton on trail 8 to Sidnaw and take Trail 8 to trail 109 which will take through Alston and back to trail 3 just south of Twin Lakes. I would stop for gas in Mass City or Bruce Crossing on the way down and Sidnaw on the way back.

Another shorter trip is south on trail 3 to trail 12 SE to Rousseau. The Rousseau Bar is on trail 12 and is very interesting. It has been in the middle of the woods since the 1930's. Good food and all the backwoods atmosphere you could want. You could then take trail 12 east to trail 109 and back up north the way I described in the other ride. This one would probably be about 130 miles.
