I realize there isn't enough snow to ride there yet but considering visiting a friend and making a day trip to Crandon Wisconsin area, wondering if anyone has ridden in that area, trails to ride or avoid, heard there was a loop you could do there. any input greatly appreciated

Good area. IDK of any areas to avoid.
The grade going south will get studders on a busy weekend.

Taking my girlfriend as well, her first time driving a snowmobile and was hoping to be a less traffic area for her before our trip to the keewenaw in mid February, my friend lives in argon which is right outside Crandon.

Whitedust should be able to add to this hopefully.

Nope not Crandon ... I'm a extreme NW Forest rider only ride as far east as Alvin or northeast thru IR MI south to 3 lakes. Those areas are panned now and trying to open but swamps are a problem.

Argonne, Hiles area is a good place with lower traffic. Closer to Crandon will be busy. Johnnies resort bar by Crandon is always busy, but a fun stop.
You'll be fine in that area.

I havent been up yet this winter, but from snow reports they should be close to opening. And everybody and their dog will probably be in Minoqua, Hurley, and the UP next week.
Forest county is usually lower traffic.
I think snobuilder rides this area alot?

BTW good food at Ed's I think its called? The nicer of the 2 places in Argonne.

Was just up there and trails are definitely not ready. They are panned and look great but there is zero base. This little warm should help the snow pack and stick. Hopefully the snow hits later this week. Conditions were pretty awsome for fat biking though if thats something you do.

If you are starting near Argonne you could go east and stay north of HWY 8 . The trail is a forest road very wide and that will take you to the NST. From there you could goo south to Laona and then hear west towards Crandon and back towards Argonne, Probably 30-50 mile loop. Trails are not open yet, keep your fingers crossed that the storm brings some snow this week.

not sure when going up there depending on weather am planning on hopefully closing shop on Saturday as we are supposed to get primarily rain down here and would be nice to have a three day weekend, going to try to do the same next weekend, forecast models show that area getting the blunt of the storm but know things can change, so not sure but going to try for this weekend or next, would rather not be on any trails anywhere new years weekend, learned my lesson on that years ago and haven't done since and when I do go to the U.P. I go during the week to try to avoid the weekend traffic and warriors. Have my fingers crossed for either a three day weekend or a day of riding or both. weathermen seem to have a problem predicting day to day let alone days out so I will decide when I look out my window on Friday.

All depends on conditions and when you are going. Not open yet but depending on this weeks snow, they were talking about a possible weekend opening. Crandon is serviced by 100 Mile Snow Safari, Lumberjack Memorial Trails, and Blackbear to the north and west on Hwy. 8. Can do the !00 Miler loop, both north, south and East, or the LMT trails through there as well. There will be traffic, but usually not too, too bad. You can also head southwest to langlade county to Tombstone Pickerel Trails. They have many trails, and usually less traffic. I ride there all the time, and the trails all directions are very good and well maintained, with many loop options You can visit the websites for each club i mentioned above for conditions and maps, etc.....

Yes we ride Forest Co. There are plenty of both long and short loops to ride out of Crandon and Laona.
Laona is 12 miles east of Crandon and kind of the "hub" of Forest Co. trail systems.
Argonne is on the far west end of Forest Co. and you can also ride towards 3 lakes if conditions are better that way.

Current reports are that the swamps aren't froze yet and the snow they have is fluff.

Not looking like will happen this weekend as snowfall forecast has been scaled way back on the station I watched this morning, maybe try for next. just have someone new to the sport and was hoping to take her to a low traffic area not only to get used to sled but not hold up any sled traffic doing so, atleast will get to close up shop for a day and will shoot for next weekend, just want to stay away from high traffic areas first time out for her. I thank everyone for their input.

Forest Co. trails scheduled to open Dec. 26. Woods trails need more snow but trails that are on (gravel) roads/grades are said to be in good early cond.
Use caution in low swampy areas.
