Riding out of St. Germain

Our annual guys trip is scheduled this weekend and we are locked in. I know the last week and a half really killed the trails. Which direction would be the safest and best way to travel out of St. Germain. We usually go northwest through boulder junction to presq isle but I read the trails in boulder junction are toast. Not looking for a race track. Just a bunch of old guys that like to ride.

Trailer more north to BC or above, buy the stickers and at least ride ok trails, south shot! That's what were doing this weekend.

good advice.....StG and most of Vilas' base has held, but its all ice, snirt, dirt, gravel on humps and corners......
town crossings are bare, woods are not much better
we've had 1" of fluff since yesterday, and maybe another inch this weekend....we need 4-6 min
wish I had better news for you
parked and waiting

We don't have the choice to trailer as most of the guys in the group are renting (sold their sleds a few years back when things were really bad) and we don't want to eat the deposit on the cabins. Not looking for ideal, just the less worse option of a direction to ride.

I'd check with your sled renter before you come, i suppose BJ to PI into Gogebic area the best option....don't expect much until you get farther north

Can always drive to Lake Gogebic and rent sleds from Timberline (ski doo) or Lake Gogebic Sports (polaris) and sled around there and drive back to the cabins. We had to do this once when staying in Tomahawk...wasn't ideal but we made the best of the situation and had a blast. Obviously depends upon your sled rental place and IF they will allow them to go out.

Go towards Sugar Camp, the trails in the woods have held up that way. Also, less traffic then what you will see to the north. Stay away from the trail that runs along highway 70, take the southern route that goes over the dam on the sugar camp chain.

A group of us will also be staying in the St. Germain area February 1 through the 5. We've discussed trailering north. Any suggestions where there is good parking and good snow?

as mentioned, trailer to Bruce Crossing, you can park trailers at the Co-op on the northeast end of the parking lot, and ride north from there

Was in St. G all weekend.... here's what I can report as of 1-29.... trails in woods, trails not going from bar to bar........flat, white, nice, a bit of ice in corners........ trails from bar to bar are brown but snow covered with ice in corners........roads burned down for most part.... in town like always....

I look at riding this way.....if trails are 51%better than suck, I ride....when trails get 51% bad than good, I park..... right now I say as of 1-29 trails are 70% good/30% bad.......and with todays snow, those numbers will change fast.........be safe, have fun.
