I rode Friday out of Twin Lakes. Unless they get some more snow, the end is near. Logging roads still had plenty though.

We went up Friday night and rode out of Trailside. Trail 124 was awesome until about a mile out of Gay. We tried trail 122 but only made it in about a mile before we turned around due to open water, bare ground and downed trees. Trail 3 ranged from poor to great with a lot more great than poor. We only went up 3 to about halfway up Brockway. The snow was giving out and we wanted to head to dinner so we turned back. The forest roads had tons of snow and were a blast to ride. The bartender at Vansville was saying most people are doing laps down 124 to Gay and back. By the time we headed back to Calumet we were riding on bare trail for 100s of yards at a time. It was definitely better heading out than coming back. We were going to trailer down and drop south of the bridge this morning but as we were driving down the snow was changing to rain so we headed home. All in all we did 130 miles and had a great time.

I rode Wednesday- Saturday from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor. Most trails are decent but north of the bridge you can find dirt and rocks in certain spots. It was my last ride of the season, looking forward to a better snow year next season.

Rode out of Calumet saturday afternoon. Was going to ride from Trailside Lodge but I was told it was about a mile of mud and rocks (heading north) before seeing snow. Trailered to the Whitehouse Inn and dropped in there. Rode half of brockway mountain then turned around. There were plenty of bare spots with large rocks. It felt like **** on the skis. Ended up doing a few miles on 124 as well. 124 was in better shape than 3. I love that trail. Got a couple inches of heavy snow Saturday night. Just enough that it probably would have covered some of the bare spots but you would have still felt them. Girlfriend was pretty sick so we did no riding Sunday. We got in about 85 miles. First time ever on a snowmobile for the gf and she did great.

We rode about 70 miles on Friday on the North Shore near Isabella. Trails were actually in decent shape, not groomed but were well covered. Forest roads were excellent. Good times!

Thursday Started in Twin Lakes, trails were great to the Mosquito and then got choppy into Houghton, made it across the Bridge and took trail 17 threw Hancock, one you were out of town trails were good to where it meets back up to trail 3. From their to Vansville, was pretty good with a few short bald spots. From Vansville to where trail 3 split's to go to Brock ways was good with an occasional bare spot. Brockway Mountian was passable as their was at least snow on each side to bounce back forth on. Copper Harbor was Bare.

After a Great Steak Dinner at the Mariner we head back. took 134 to the 135 shortcut, again pretty good .
134 back to 3 was great. From their back to 3 /17 split was the same as the trip up.

Then we made the mistake of taking 3 back to Houghton, The closer we got the worse it was, we bounced from side to side looking for any snow we should of turned around and went to back to 17 , we have to stop at least 1/2 dozen times to cool them down.

Lets just say Carbides, some Ski's and all Slides will need to be replaced. The rest of the ride after Houghton was the same as coming up from twin lakes, about 15 Miles of pure Bumps and the last 10 miles were Awesome.

We left Friday Morning with 164 miles for the trip on Thursday

Last Trip of the year will be burned un my mind for a while and my pocket book.

my crew and I are considering coming up to western up this weekend for one last ride, are we completely nuts, or with the expected snow both Thursday and Saturday is this a possibility? If so, any thought on where to ride?

When we left Sunday morning it was pouring rain just south of Houghton. I would expect conditions to be the same or worse when we rode Saturday. For the most part it was okay but would I drive up there for it this weekend? Nope. Too many exposed rocks (that you can't avoid) to tear up your sled. I spent last evening washing the dirt and sand off the sleds.

Trail 3 had some pretty long sections of dirt and rocks. This is from Calumet north. South I'm sure is worse. Approaching Copper Harbor it was getting pretty bad. We did a few miles on the paved section of Brockway Mountain. You had to bounce around the path to try to avoid pavement and get as much snow as possible. Trail 124 was better the five or so miles we did before we turned around due to low fuel.

It has rained all day today, yesterday was almost 60 degrees and the bulk of the snow, if any, looks like its gonna miss us...i'd say no. Also, the trails officially close on Friday, April 1st.

We pulled the plug and did not go to the UP on 4/2, but had we had epic snow and rode, would we have facied possible tickets for closed trails? Just curious.

Riding right now in Twin Lakes/Toivola. Trail 3 is in pretty good shape, you can ride it year round. We've been in the woods all day, logging roads are mint right now. 5-6 inches of new snow since yesterday.

My buddy and i are doing the same. Going to the casino Friday night and then drive to somewhere (Krupps, etc) dropping and riding all day Saturday. Should be good conditions.

I will be up this Saturday also. Staying in South Range and headed south. Hopefully we can get to forest roads off the trail. If you see Rasta Reid - stop and say hello!
