Just letting folks know about two fires burning in Michigan one is growing in the southeast corner of Roscommon County and the other near the military base near Grayling. The south fire is in the jackpines so it is moving very fast. Just a heads up for cabin owners. 9 and 10 news and 7 and 4 are covering the story.

Hopefully not to close to the fire :). (I know. That's not funny.)

We were up there a few years ago shortly after they had the fire go thru just south of town. I hope it's not as bad as that one!

<!--startindex-->GRAYLING, Mich. -- Crews are battling two forest fires in dry, windy northern Michigan, both of which have forced some people to leave their homes.
The state Department of Natural Resources and Environment said one fire has burned about 5,000 acres in Crawford County's South Branch Township, near the Oscoda County line. Ten structures have been destroyed.
More than 15 residences were evacuated. A Red Cross shelter was being opened at Resurrection Life Center in Grayling.
DNRE spokeswoman Mary Detloff said the fire is mostly on federal land.
The second fire is in Kalkaska County, within the Camp Grayling National Guard base.
Detloff says 10 to 15 houses have been evacuated there. Military personnel are helping DNRE crews fight the 1,000 acre fire.

I live in the middle of a jackpine forest. Having a bonfire on a dry day would be like smoking in a fireworks factory. X'2 thunderstruck, I hope they get this fire out quick. This area has many summer places scattered about the area. The scary part is that the winds are moving around and they are concerned about the crews on the south side of this blaze.

Northern Michigan's News Leader continues to follow two massive forest fires in Crawford County.

One fire is burning near F-97 and M-18, forcing people nearby to evacuate their homes. The DNRE tells us anyone evacuated today should NOT return to their homes tonight.

It's scorched more than 6,000 acres and is far from containment. It's 6.5 miles long, and 1.5 miles wide. So far, four structures have been destroyed, but it's still unclear what type. We have learned that there are no reported injuries. Grayling Mercy Hospital has been prepared to handle any injuries that may come up.

A huge smoke cloud can be seen stretching for miles and ash is falling as far away as Cadillac. Strong winds are helping fan the flames.

About 175 firefighters are fighting the fire on the ground.
Crews are also attacking the flames from the air.

Everyone evacuated has been told to go to Resurrection Life Church.

Meanwhile, firefighters have finally contained an out of control wildfire near Camp Grayling, but not before it burned around 1,100 acres and forced people living within ten miles of Camp Grayling to evacuate. The fire has destroyed four homes.

We have crews at both fires. Tune in to 9&10 News at 11:00 for a live report, as well as on Michigan This Morning.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources FIRE ALERT/GOOD NEWS! As of 6 p.m., Meridian Boundary Fire in Crawford County is 65% contained. The southern edge of the fire gave crews minor problems today, but those were handled; suppression work continues tonight. On Thursday, fire crews will continue containment efforts, focusing on perimeter hot spots.
