Ok some one out there must know the secret for priming the carburetors on a Yamaha RS Vector after they have been run dry for summer shut down.

Open the hood and look behind the secondary clutch (near where your knee would be while sitting on the sled) there is a vent tube from the gas tank attached to a fitting ... take that off and blow into it a couple times, then stick your thumb over the line to plug it. I put a couple good breaths in there. This pressurizes the tank and will force gas into the carbs quicker. Put the choke lever at max and begin cranking - it should start within 10-20 seconds. Once it's running I generally let it warm up good (until you take the choke off) and then shut it down to replace the vent line. Good luck! Should work and is what many an RS owner does.

Took care of my bud's RS Vector for years. I took the easy way out put sled on stand in late Fall & shot some starting fluid up the carbs started the sled then gas would start being pumped thru on its own. Worked every year to blow the spiders out then good to go all winter.

Yep, that should work too, although you'll have to take apart the air box to squirt fluid into the carbs. Another way folks have done it (from Totallyamaha forum) is to remove the fuel lines from the fuel pumps and squirt some gas down those. That will give it just enough fuel to fire and hopefully begin sucking gas from the tank.

To Vogelm1 Thanks for the tip on blowing in the vent tube, it worked great, very easy to do and started right away.

I guess I'm just lazy. I jumper my full-size boat battery to the 'charging' battery leads, full choke, remove gas cap and crank away. I stop after 20-30 seconds to let the starter cool down, do this 2X more and it fires right up (both my 07 Rage and 08 Vector). This also ensures the entire engine is pre-lubed before it actually fires. Don't know if this is better or worse but I've been doing it this way with the Rage for 4 years and Vector for 3 with no ill effects. Finding the vent hose is somewhat tricky, especially on the 08 Vector that has the newer bodywork/side panels/etc.

Perhaps the most frustrating part is when I go to start my wife's 600 Polaris, it fires up in 5-10 seconds after sitting with dry carbs all spring-summer-fall.

There's gotta be a better OEM solution than this. Of course with fuel injection you don't have this problem at all as the lines stay pressurized.....and now that all the Yami's are FI I guess it's a non-event for them......
