Shock Question...

I have a 2000 Mach Z 800 that I bought used and the guy put a SC10-3 rear suspension in it from a 03 or 04 Rev. I need to replace the shock at the rear and my question is how can i tell if the shock has 18mm bushings or 8mm bushings? I dont want to order the wrong shock. How do you measure with the mm size? Will the 8mm size bushing be smaller than if i held up like a 10mm socket to it to compare? On the other hand a 18mm socket is huge and cant imagine bushings being that large? Any help on this is appreciated.. Thanks!

The bolt diam on that suspension is 8 MM (or 5/16) the shock eye may have bushings that reduce the 18mm eye diam to the 8mm bolt diam. usually plastic, and should be replaced every couple of years to keep things tight. You did not indicate if it was the center shock or the rear one. I will assume you ment the rear (long one) they should be the same, except that the 03 rev had rebuildable shocks, the 04 did not, unless it was a X model. If you are lucky you have the 03 and can just re-build it. Look for a gas re-charge fitting on the bottom alum part of the shock.

The stock shocks were not in the suspension when i bought it. There were Fox shocks in it and the rear shock was not the correct one for it as it was a reservior shock and the fitting for the reservior chewed up the track. I want to replace it with a correct "stock type" shock. Most descriptions i saw for replacing the shock give you the 8mm or 18mm choice. I guess i will need to just pull the old one out and measure but the sled isnt stored at my house and is a distance away. I would bet its the 8mm one but dont want to order the wrong one..snow is coming!!
