Ski Doo 600SDI question

new to the SDI, when you hit the kill switch, do the speedo lights stay on for about 30 seconds, then shut off, or do I have some kind of electrical problem? all my other Rev's never did this that I recall. Also when you flip the switch to turn on should the speedo lights come on? seems like I have a delay and no power to the electric start or even when you pull it, then out of the blue I will get speedo lights and it will fire up? any input appreciated.

Muss,

I've owned 4 600 HO SDIs, and all did what you describe. Apparently there's a bit of a battery for certain things in there (I'm no mechanic by any means......can you tell?) even without electric start, that is somewhat charged just by pulling the pull starter rope.

Muss,

I have SDI's and the gauge lights will stay on for a bit after shutting the sled off - but I don't think it is for 30 seconds. Several (5 - 10) seconds after shutting it off, the sled gives two chirps/beeps, then all gauge lights go off. When starting, you first press the "on" switch which lights up the gauges, but look at the odometer - it will be flashing for a few seconds. Once it stops flashing, the odometer miles show up and you can start it. I have a 2006 with electric start and a 2007 without, and both act the same. I think I have hit the electic start button before the odometer had stopped flashing and it wouldn't turn over....

You can call your local Doo dealer and ask someone in their service department too. Hope this helps.

Muss,
Every thing is operating normally. When you press your grey button (RER and/or elec start)the gauges activate or if you pull the rope. There is a small battery on the manual start models. If it goes dead you won't be able to start the engine.

guys, thanks for all the input. Brad nailed my problem on the head, It seems like after I pull it a few 6-8 times it kicks something on and then I have power and it fires up. when I hit the electric start however there is nothing. As far as the lights staying on when I kill it, I timed it twice, they stay on for 35 seconds after I kill it. The only thing I can think of is my battery is dead, It is only a 2007, I thought the average battery lasted 4-5 years? Can I put a battery charger on it? Or do I need a new battery? Any other comments/suggestions?

thanks.

You can put a battery charger on it. I had to replace the battery in my 2006 after only one year - it wouldn't hold a charge very well. I wasn't too happy having to buy a new battery after one season, but I could have kept using the original and charging it when needed but didn't want to get stranded (wife's sled) if it died. With the SDI, you need a battery to have the engine run. If you haven't already, check the terminals to make sure all the connections are clean and tight. Otherwise, a new battery = peace of mind this season on the trail!

When all is working properly, these SDI's start with one or two pulls. Mine started in 2 pulls this weekend after being stored since late March.

Good luck.

Mustard, you answered my question before I posted it! I was just going to ask that if the battery is dead in an SDI wouldent it still pull start? cause now it wont start even pulling it. My other sleds with electric start would pull over if the batter died, but obviously the SDI needs a good battery to start alltogether!

Thanks Mustard
