Ski Doo ACE 600

Anybody riding on of these? Say a 19’ or a 20’. Don’t need to go 100. Speed and stupidity caused bicep to have to be reattached. Just looking at something that has low end torque and would be fun in the ditches. Thanks.

Rented one. Really, really, didn't like it. No torque, mid range, or top speed. It felt like it had a go-cart motor in it. I rented it for my wife, who was a beginning rider and she skated all around with the 1" track. I would not own one for anyone in my family. With that being said, my brother runs one and he likes it, but drives is fine going slow, and doesn't care about handling.

I looked at one of these when they first came out. They're very quiet, torque on the low end and top out around 70 or so. The gas mileage should be well north of 20 mpg. The engine has been around since 09 and they've held up very well.

Rent one at Trackside in Eagle River mid-week, probably $100 bucks if you take out at 8AM and have back at 5PM.
I likened the power delivery to a 500 Sportsman ATV, not for me as it topped out at 62. If you are used to a fast sled you will likely either hold the throttle all the way on or all the way off.
They are dependable and hold a good value if you buy at the right time.

The 900 fixes all those problems and has more power.

Except the "un-intelligent throttle".
That needs some serious re-programming (at least for pre-2019 models).
The modes have a gap of power and cannot duplicate the progressive throttle of a 2-stroke.

Had 2015 GT Sport with the 600. Ran good. Slow. As mentioned by others, felt like ~600 class ATV. In sport mode had a little bit of torque but top speed was barely 50s unless downhill.

When I rode it, had 2 throttle positions: on and off. I would not consider it suitable for ditch banging.

Great beginner, casual around private land or ice fishing machine.

Just out of curiosity, how does the 600 ace compare to a 550 fan? Seems to be on par with that engine but pretty limited in reviews or first hand accounts from people.

Got a good buddy that rides and has ridden 550 fan Pols for years. They will go between 70 and 75 tops. Maybe 80 going downhill with a wind and pull the windshield down with your left hand.

Late 90s Polaris touring with 550 fan (inlaws have one) compared to 2015 Doo touring with 600 ace. More torque and overall power on the 600, but not by much. They would be a close comparison for power.

My dad has a 550 ski doo and I think its a pretty snappy engine in his GSX. You are mistaken if you want to win a drag race, but I feel that you never really get above 70% of the power anyways on the trails. ACE engine just seems incredibly reliable.

I am still puzzled at your assessment? My (wifes) 900 ace in "Sport" mode has absolutely no throttle lag what so ever. Never has had. Spot on, and hard hitting when nailed WFO. The "Eco" mode is good for load, unload, and getting unstuck. "Standard" mode is great for riding with my granddaughter, or just relaxed cruising.

Yeah, pretty much what Abe said plus I like the rotating throttle for when the thumb gets tired. The 1200 had some lag but hardly cause for concern.

The 550 fan has a lot more snap than the 600 ace. And I would suggest going up the next step and pick up the 600 carb. Minus the smell of the old technology of the oil injection system, it is really a nice machine, and a great value. Saw them for sale late last winter for a bit over $6k.

I know someone mentioned the phazer. This is leaps and bounds above the 600 ace FWIW. Owned a phazer for a few years and it had great low end, ok midrange, and overall weak top end. If a long straight stretch, could see 80-83 mph. So while not neck snapping, way better motor than the 600 ace.

Sewing machine in ditches bound to get you in trouble need more snap to avoid obstacles. 900 ace solves all that if you want a 4s.

Exactly what I was thinking.
600 Carb Ski-Doo is awesome value and can hang with the big dogs up to 70 and a top speed easily of 90 if you have hard pack. Not to mention the chassis and motor are rock solid.
Buy a new one for $6,300 in early February and if you don't like it sell it next fall for $5,500.
