Ski Doo fuel guage

Had two new 1200's this weekend. Both sleds would show only one bar remaining on the fuel gauge but when I would fill them they would only take 7-8 gallons. This was after doing the whole push down the rear thing to allow for more fuel. Is there just really 2-3 gallons left with 1 bar showing.

Probably not. Doo gauges are notoriously inaccurate. And you already know about the "burping" procedure. But the sending unit may need adjusting, too. There is a way to do it, but I don't know specifically how. If you don't find an answer here, try DooTalk. That's where I read about it.

On the bright side, better it has 2-3 gallons left with one bar showing, than have only 1 gallon left with 2 or 3 bars showing!

I have never trusted any fuel gauge on any sled...doos have been the worst for me. I know my average m.p.g. for conditions I am riding and always reset my mileage at everyfill up so I know when to be looking for gas....plus I almost never pass a station without topping off unless I am in an area that I know two or three stations are within 10 to 20 miles of each other. And as stated go yo doo talk. Lots of threads on there on both electronic and dial gauges.

Your Sending Unit needs adjusting. Open the left Side Panel and remove the guard that covers the primary. On the left-front of the gas tank at the bottom where it meets the tunnel you'll see an adjustment dial/plug looking thing. Look close, with a flashlight if necessary and you'll see an arrow. The arrow should be pointed exactly straight up. If it's not pointed straight up at 12 o'clock it will throw off your readings. What you're doing is re-positioning the float or sending unit on the inside of the tank.

I had the same issue with mine the first year, it's quite accurate but I still reset one of the Trip Meters when I fill up knowing that I get around 150 miles to a tank.

I had the same thing happen last week. Had a 1/3 tank when I left home and 5 miles down the trail I only had 1 bar showing. I knew from my mileage on the trip gauge that I had another 50 miles left or more. Went 20 miles and filled up...it took 8.6 gallons (so I had 2 gallons left). I'm going to check my dial as Gary suggested...thanks for the info.
