While up north in that cold got borderline frostbite. First time I have ever had a problem with my modular 1. So looking at new helmet for cold. I really like the breath e vac system on doo helmets so want to stick with them. Are the mod 2 helmets warmer them mod 1 helmets??. I have also been thinking about bv2 but have a couple of friends that have had issues with the mask stripping on theirs. Also see there is a mod 3 coming out this year but cant seem to find any info on what they changed to make those better. I am sure there are many good helmets out there but the sun shield and breath vac system on the doo helmets I really like so would like to stay with them but I am wondering if mod 2 or 3 is the way to go or go with a bv2s??? What are your thoughts.

Thank you...I was looking for that but aint to puter smart with the searches..as far as stripping I meant the way you adjust it stripped out. When talking to my local dealer she said always turn it back when taking on and off and adjust every time but she does sell a lot of mask just for that reason. Biggest problem she has seen is letting other people wear your helmet and not instructing them how to wear it. He husband currently uses the mod 2 but he is at convention so I didn't get a chance to talk to him on comparison from 1 to 2 and that is when she said if I can wait till fall that mod 3 is coming out but she did not know what has changed on them.

Yep, backing it off is almost a "must" when donning and doffing. Also -- as talked about in the other thread -- the mask doesn't have to be super tight to provide a seal (I suppose it's possible that overtightening may lead to the stripping condition your friends have). I was making the mistake of overtightening mine (thinking more is better) and in the process was distorting the intake valves, which then provided an unwanted escape route for exhaled breath. After backing it off to just snug, no more issues.

I don't know if your friends are aware (I wasn't until just last year) but the tube the mask is attached to is extendable. You should use this "coarse" adjustment to get the mask close to your face (once you get that positioning, leave it there), and use the knob to "fine tune" it. That way you don't need to use the full range of motion the knob provides. I'm wondering if they are thinking it's stripped because they're turning the knob to its full extent and the mask won't get any closer -- when this happens, it does make a sort of "ratcheting" sound.

My wife and son have the mod 2 now both have had the mod1 and the 2 is much warmer the shield seals tighter on the helmet and the flap under it helps also. Wife even said it can slightly fog when stopped but crack the shield and goes away, but she wears a x-small so the mask doesn't fit her the best. I still have mod 1 and thinking about upgrade for cold days also, keep mod 1 for normal days and possibly bv2 for real cold days or almost every day I rode this year.

I own the modular 2 and BV2s. I use them both for different conditions.

I use the modular 2 when riding my two up Venture GT with the huge windshield or on warmer days.

I Use the BV2s when it's cold (say maybe below 10 degrees) and when I'm on my Apex, which has a lower windshield.

Modular 2 is my favorite helmet overall due to how it opens up and is easy to put on. When it's very cold like this winter the BV2s really shines. little air infiltration compared to the modular 2. You may not notice any incoming air on the modular 2 if you are riding behind a big windshield and it's not too cold out. For those who have ONLY the modular 2 and haven't tried the BV2s you may not realize how much air IS coming thru your helmet even if the vents are closed.

Of course, you will always hear people complaining about either of the helmets. In my experience you need to really know how to get the breathing/nose pieces in the right place to eliminate any fogging. I learned from experience that when in the right conditions outside you will get fogging if you don't have helmet worn properly...of course electric shields help too.

if you are susceptible to frost bite I would recommend the BV2s without question.

I have the BVS2, and it does a great job, but I would also recommend searching and trying on some others. In the last year or two, I have seen some really nice helmets with sun shields out there, and they are nowhere near the price of the bvs2. a friend of mine has a new one from FXR and he loves it. BVS2 works, but you need to be careful with it. all the "cool" parts of the helmet seem to be very fragile, (mask, shield, spring loaded items). if I could do it over again I would have researched more, and saved myself a couple hundred. just my $.02.

I just put carmed on my face the wax type when I feel that cold burn coming on with brp mod & my skin warms up & good to go for many hours. I need the airflow to keep glasses clear. Always trade offs.

You should have gotten a cold weather extra "mask" with the original modular helmet.......looks almost like a welders mask except with eye holes.......intended for very cold weather just to counteract the air leak issue........
