I'm doing a oil change on my 2012 mxz 1200 xr ad was wondering what type of oil I should use and how much I need. Looked on ebay and they were selling BRP oil for $46 a liter! Need a cheaper answer than that.

Maybe it's just me, but if you can drop the coin on a sled, you should be able to drop the coin on the upkeep of such sled. Put an oil in it that stands up to the specs recommended.

Mobil 1 0W-40, 3.7 quarts (or 3.5 liters).

Per the owner's manual: "If the recommended oil is not available, use SAE 0W40 synthetic-based oil that meets or exceeds the requirements for API service classification SM."

The jugs of Mobil 1 in my garage say it meets or exceeds API service classifications SN, SM, and SL. $25 for a 5 quart jug at Wally World. If I were a betting guy, I'd bet that the oil in those jugs is the same oil in the overpriced BRP jugs.

Did you mean $46/gallon? Whatever you buy, the annual oil cost is going to be about the same price as one tank of gas in that thing.

There have been a few guys on DooTalk looking for an aftermarket filter, but I don't know if they've had any success.

Another vote for Mobil 1 0w40. No brainer for 5qt jug for $26 vs. BRP 1 gal. jug for $50.

No aftermarket filter that I'm aware of.

I also have not heard of a aftermarket oil filter yet,but they are pretty cheap through ski doo. I run Amsoil 0W-40 in my 1200 and it works good.
