Skidoo battery heating up

What would cause a battery to heat up where it feels like it's going to catch on fire. 06 rev and battery replaced last season. Rode today in very cold temps and smelled something burning. Took battery out to cool off. Thanks

On sled while running, got to be a voltage regulator of some sort on alternator/generator (stator) to limit amount of charge to the battery. Its possible that is what caused your last battery to go bad.

Regulator must have failed? Did you notice the same smell prior to the last battery failing? How old was the last battery? Was it the original? If the present battery got as hot as you sad, it is probably damaged somewhat also.

a short in the system. agree with abe battery is most likely shot now.
