skidoo mxz 500 backfiring

So, when i start up my sled it runs fine but then after its road for like 10 min or more and then shut off and restarted, it will backfire. The sled will only backfire if it sits less than a half hour or so when started back up. But if the sled sits for a good hour or more it will not backfire when started up. So i am just wondering what would cause it to backfire when started up within 20 min after just being ran?

Every old (05 and older)500 Liquid I had backfired after I shut it off. What year do you have and does it back fire after you shut it off?

If it does, its Gas built up in the Muffler. You could lean it out a bit but be carefull.

Same issues here with a 2002 and 2003 500 for 4 years now. Both run good. I wouldnt worry

its a 2002 mxz 500 and i have only heard i backfire once or twice when i hit the kill switch otherwise its only when i start it up within 20 min or so.

My 2003 mxz500 would do it at least 2 or 3 times daily. Never caused any problems. Was a great little sled that I miss riding. Daughter has it now.

Also let it idle down before killing.

I think i fiqured out why it was backfiring so much and thats because the idle was set way to high and it was at 3200 and now its down to about 2000 to 2200 and when i shut it down and restarted it, it did not backfire and usually it would of so i hope its fixed now!!
