skidoo secondary clutch

I have a 1997 skidoo mxz 670 and I was wanting to know should there be any play in the clutch from side to side? The clutch feels really loose when I move it with my hands side to side. Just wanting to know what I should replace to tighten up the clutch if it needs it. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Joe

There can be some side play, maybe 1/32" to 1/16". It floats a little to keep the belt centered. You can shim it tighter with washers if you are sure its lined up correctly. Just be sure the bolt is tight against the shaft(bottomed out) with the spacer in there.

As noted above the secondary floats on the shaft....if you take off the secondary, you need to make sure those shims go back into the same locations.....if it has never been off, it would probably be a good time for cleaning and spring replacement....

If you are running the sled at 1/4 to 1/2 trottle and let off then get back into the trottle it seems to bog down. The power feels like it is there it just does not seem like it is getting to the track. Could the spring be the cause of that. The carbs have been cleaned and synced. So now I am looking at the clutches. Thanks for the help so far, any more help would be great. Thanks guys.

Thanks

You could have weak springs in one or both clutches. Could be pucks and/or o-rings in primary. Could be buttons in secondary. Could be gunked up or sticking shaft in secondary. Could be bad bushings in primary. Does sound like clutching, tho.
