Sled in bed of mid-sized truck?

Anyone move a sled around in the back of a midsized truck? I was looking for something for my son like a nissan frontier, but it would be nice if I could use it when I need to move my sled too. I don't think there is 48" between the wheel wells, so I'd think I'd have build something for it to sit up on. Was thinking a truck like that be quite a bit cheaper than a full size and easier to deal with in the school parking lot.

I used to have a Dodge Dakota. I didn't build a wheel-well platform because I wanted to keep the sleds weight low and inside the bed (the wheel-well cutouts are pretty high compared to the height of the box). Drove it straight in, had one ski up on the wheel well, and 1 strap through the skid to each side of the bed. Never had any issues, other than it looked a little weird.

I did scratch up the wheel-well with the carbide, but it's a truck bed.
