Sled Rental near Marquette? (Midway has stopped)

Double whammy this year - first Red Fox Inn closes, now Midway has stopped doing sled rentals. I do an annual trip with friends from here in Chicago... and am now in need of a source. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

You can rent sleds at the Super 8 motel in Wetmore just east of Munising. There is a Polaris dealer next door that also rents. Don't know what kind of selection you have, I would think limited.

Marquette Powersports Rentals

I work at Powersports. We typically have 11-15 rentals at store and can pull from Iron Mountain and Houghton stores if needed and have up to 30-40 sleds. 95% of them are current model years. Rev XP's. 550 or 600 and rent out 600 etec too. Truck and trailer parking and trail access.

Hey all - thanks for the suggestions. I had actually contacted Marquette Powersports and spoke with Dan. The rates and equipment are comparable to Midway and they have trail access. We typically take 6 to 9 sleds. With it being just down the road from Midway as well, that helps a lot. As for staying in the townhomes on base... not too keen on that with rented equipment overnight and a vacant unit for so many hours during the day. Too much bad news from too many people I know who live there. Perhaps the Model Town Inn in Gwinn or if absolutely necessary - Holiday in Marquette - though I would much rather not. Limited lodging choices with trail access around Gwinn/Mqt. Munising is not doable as it will add an hour to the trip heading north and the schedule is already tight.

I agree on the townhomes. They do have locking garages though, and trail access is possible with a little exploration. However. It's sorta rough out there. And I grew up near there. Model Towne Inn however is located in Gwinn not Marquette. Not sure how it was advertised on line. There is also a neat little cottage set up on Farmer's lake in Little Lake that is about half mile from trail. most people in the winter ditch it to the cabins. Normally very clean. In Ishpeming otherwise try I think it is a Super 8 or comfort suites in Ishpeming. Right on trail, bar lounge food gas all right there.

Are you talking about the Midway on FFH13? Not sure what area you are going to. George @ Whitefawn has launched a new business. Hiawatha Rentals. He is renting sleds this year out of the Forest Glenn General Store. Give them a call if you need more info. www.whitefawn.com

Sorry - I meant Model Towne Inn of Gwinn, not MQT... :)
And I did run across those cabins on Farmers lake while searching online, and had spoken to them a few days ago and am probably going to be going with that. Thanks for the input guys, I do appreciate it. Does anyone know if the groomer is still going to run up to the base and/or if it will be diverting its path once it gets up that way? It used to go all the way up to Tailwinds/Red Fox, and it would be nice to use it to get to the planes.

srobak, although it sounds like you have it planned out for Marquette, Munising is not any further if your coming from Chicago. I live in Green Bay, so I assume you come right through this way on your way up. It is the same distance from GB to Munising or to Marquette, if anything, a couple minutes more to Marquette. Our group does both regularly and Munising area does have far more rental options.
