We have started grooming again. The trails are overall FAIR with a couple areas in POOR condition. There are some bare & wet areas to deal with until we get more snow and cold weather. Watch for some large wet spots on trail #3 between Bruce Crossing and Rockland, you have plenty of room to get around them with a snowmobile and none are very deep.

Please DO NOT climb the “Military Hill” from the highway, US 45, to the fence, we have ongoing erosion issues there and the hill climbers are adding to the problem. YOU COULD CAUSE THIS MAJOR TRAIL TO BE CLOSED IF YOU CONTINUE!

Trail #3 North to Rockland is FAIR. Some wet and thin spots to watch for.
Trail #8 from Ewen to trail #3 North is FAIR.
Trail #3/8 East from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 South intersection is POOR.
Trail #3/8 West from Bruce Crossing to the trail #3 North intersection is POOR.
Trail #3 South from the railroad grade to the CC road is FAIR.
Trail #8 from the trail #3 South intersection to Trout Creek is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Trout Creek to Kenton is FAIR.
Trail #8 from Kenton to Sidnaw is FAIR.
Trail #8/15 from Sidnaw to the trail #109 intersection is FAIR.

Superior Snowmobile Club has been out grooming since temps have been cold enough-thinking the last 4 days. Trails groom up but don't hold up long because of the surface sugar snow & paddle tracks. We will be real happy if this spitting snow we're getting today gives us at least 3 inch (or more) to get mixed in on the trails, it'll help them get more texture again.

We rode out of Watersmeet Fri-Sunday. Went east to Iron River to Sidnaw ,Mass Amasa etc. the conditions were absolutely phenomenal , trail 107,2,15,12,3,111 were absolutely flat fun and fast with plenty of snow and groomed, would not have believed how good they were if I didnt ride them myself.

They going to be able to handle a weekend's worth of beatings however...... That's the question. We are supposed to head up to Watersmeet this Sunday.

Maybe if they groom 109 and it snows a foot. I was disgusted at the condition of 109 about 20 miles into it on the way from Rousseau to Sidnaw; bumps, bumps and more bumps plus the road trails are down to quite a bit of gravel coming through.
Went back to Houghton and all was well north of South Range.

Bear, we didnt go on 109 , stayed on 12 and it was freshly groomed Sat. night when we came back. Heard 109 was bad so we avoided it and also did some unplowed Forest roads.

TRAIL #109 Superior Snowmobile Club only grooms from trail #3 to the power lines on #109. Baraga comes up to there. We do get report from Baraga Tourism and they had been having trouble with water areas until just before the warm spell hit and then lost them again. Lack of snow & temps....Keep this # handy so you can call before next trip-1-800-743-4908 (Baraga County Tourism) and ask Tracy about that area's condition. The 10 day warm spell didn't do any area any favor but looks like areas are improving with some snowfall. Wish we could control Mother Nature & Old Man Winter-they are both a tough nut to crack.

Mu opinion is that it is the Baraga club responsibility but is so far from home they need to bring a tent and sleeping to get to it, thus no grooming.

Sad to hear.
I rode through a few times during my previous trip (Jan 2-6, 2017) and it was one of the most fun rides in a while (fast sweeping turns with small elevation changes), they even had quite a bit of lake effect all the way to Sidnaw.
