snow conditions in Escanaba area

I live in Gladstone and am downstate right now for Xmas so this info is a few days old but when we left on Fri there was only 6+/- inches around Esky so wouldn't have been good to ride yet. I'd imagine the trail leaving the fairground and out toward Felch would have been rough with the low snow conditions. Rapid River had a bit more snow but I didn't drive up to the trailhead yet on Whitefish hill to see if they had groomed yet. That pipeline usually takes more snow and several groomings to bury the ditches. If you're heading up that way I'd say you'd be wise to go a little further north. Again, I've been gone a few days and haven't been out yet so take my feedback as a little more than a best guess.

Sorry Poor Devil, haven't been out that way yet this year so not sure if the gate is open. Got back in town yesterday and snow pretty light. Need another good dumping before this area is good.

Still really light on snow. I'd trailer north toward Munising or Chatham instead of riding out of Esky or Gladstone yet.

Had to make a trip to the landfill today so I checked out the trail on the way back. The trail has been groomed once but there is literally no base. I walked onto the trail right where it passes the landfill and there was about 1-2" of snow over the dirt. No tracks on it and you'd tear up your carbides bad trying to ride. We need a good 6" dump before you can ride anywhere out of Esky.

It's gotten worse since last report. Virtually no snow on trails with all the rain and warm weather last Wednesday-Thursday. Head to Lake Superior Snow belt areas, only places with enough snow for fun so far this year.

Well we finally got the dumping we needed! 12 +/- inches mainly east and north of Esky. Rode 300 miles today from trailhead in Rapid River and conditions were excellent. Not sure what it looks like out of Esky toward Felch but they did get some snow that direction too so might be rideable if you're so inclined.
