Snow conditions in UP Michigan

Planning a trip to Michigan, probably the houghton area unless the riding is better somewhere else. What are the snow conditions like around the UP and specifically the houghton to copper harbor area?
Also are any of the restaurants open that are near the trails for lunch? Do they have heaters for their outdoor seating?

I live on trail 17 north of Hancock. The trails are groomed but very thin as we have very little snow.

Not sure when the restaurants are opening. Be prepared for takeout or bringing you own food.

Just got in today in ontonagon. Snow is thin and around the ontonagon area there are large water holes that are not frozen. Would easily eat a sled if you aren't paying attention.

Knowing Tracker's past posts over the years, I'm going to guess he rode in the Huron Mountains area. Think Baraga/L'Anse over to Big Bay down to Republic/Michigamme area.

I don't think this is any big secret - as Tracker has stated in previous years posts how much he likes that area, I agree, nice trails, nice terrain, just not a lot out in that neck of the woods for businesses/stops, but that's OK sometimes.

And the Mount Kilimanjaro reference, I suspect that is instead Michigan's highest point (Mt. Arvon), in the middle of the above mentioned geography.

But, could be wrong!

Conditions to me seem terrible. I mainly off trail and from what I've seen from the trails they look very thin.

Its so strange for it to be near mid-January and there are almost no snowmobilers here.

I'm not seeing this kind of snow in Twin Lakes or Houghton/Hancock. I have not even 6 inches in my backyard and I can still drive into my cabin by Twin Lakes.
