...SNOW TO IMPACT NEW YEARS HOLIDAY TRAVEL... Monday into Tuesday, several inches of plowable snow are expected across much of Upper Michigan, with the highest confidence in higher snowfall amounts across the Porcupine Mountains and the higher terrain across north central Upper Michigan. Initially, snow is expected to move into far western Upper Michigan and over the Keweenaw Peninsula late tonight and Monday morning. Throughout Monday afternoon, snow will continue to spread eastward across north central Upper Michigan. Across the south central and north of Lake Michigan, as a system tracks off to our south, a few inches of system snow is expected to lift north late Monday afternoon and evening. Initially, snow is expected to be wet, but will gradually transition over to fluffy lake effect snow Monday night across the northeast to north wind snow belts. As the snow becomes fluffy Monday night, northeast to north winds will increase in speed with gusts upward of 25 to 35 mph. These winds will create blustery conditions and blowing snow concerns, especially near Lake Superior. Snow will tapper off inland from Lake Superior by early Tuesday morning, with lingering lake effect expected near Lake Superior. If you have travel plans on or around the New Year's Holiday, plan for travel impacts including slippery roads and sharply reduced visibilities due to blowing snow. Stay tuned to the forecast and future updates!
