Has anyone had any experience with a "Troy Built Vortex" 3 stage snowblower? It appears to be capable of any kind of snow conditions? I welcome your opinions what ever they may be.
Abe, I have the Troy Built (from Lowes) XP 30 inch path and I can say Troy Built is brand-engineered that is the same as MTD, Sears (was) and many other models. It is decent as long as you buy it discounted (military, find a Home-Depot or Lowes new home owner coupon etc.) as the engines are likely all the same.

I think the MTD quality has improved so to say from what it was years back. Yes, MTD, Cub Cadet, Troybuilt, etc, all the same mfr. How do you like it fuji, works well? Looks like wet, frozen, or dry snow should be no problem? Supposed to be fast as compared to a 2 stage? I suppose with you it's for sale, eh? Yeah, I couldn't pass that up! HA!
Nope, its a keeper at 30 inches wide, paid 650 4 years ago and they are up to 900, ridiculous.
All I do is put stabil in and it starts first pull with the primer, never use the E start.

are you guys all using no ethanol gas since it sits all summer? or do you drain the gas for the summer? it sounds like they start right up in the fall so I am wondering about the gas
I always run straight (no Ethanol) premium gas.
Before I cover it for the summer, I fill the fuel tank and stabil it.
Thanks fuji, good luck on back pack ride from home!
Looking at the specs I could find, it says it has a "Troy Built" motor. Any one know who makes the motor for them? Other than that, it looks similar to my trouble free four year old Cub Cadet. (Also made by MTD I believe) Mine has a Briggs motor though. Being a die hard Tecumseh Snow King guy, I was hesitant to go with the B&S, but it starts on the first pull every time and runs great. Even after sitting all summer. Just prime and choke.
I'm sure they are all B&S engines. Troy Built doesn't mfr engines. They may tag the B&S engine with the Troy Built TM thru a licensing agreement? I believe Toro, and GENERAC, also does this with B&S engines.
I just found out that Generac do indeed build their own engines in Whitewater WI.! Good deal! My next stand by genset will be a Generac. I thought I had bought the best with Kohler, but not again.
Just to clarify, I believe their home standbys are US built. Portables (5500, 7500, etc.) are Chinese junk. Unfortunately I have one.
