I have never been out to the snowies. Thinking about heading next week. How are the mountain meadow cabins? We will be renting sleds this trip out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have always stayed at MMC when I go to the Snowies and think it one of the best locations on the mountain to stay. That being said, there is no sled gas there and you'll need to run down to Centennial. You can ask Chris if he'll sell you gas since you're renting but I don't know if he can legally sell it. Another option might be Ten Mile Inn. Not sure if they have rentals.

We will be staying at Mountian Meadow Cabins starting next week (arriving on the 25th). This will be our 3rd time staying with Chris. As a sled renter you should be aware that you have to sled in to the cabins (it is just about a mile to the parking area). Chris will come and pick up your gear and everything in a big sled, but there is only room for one other person on his sled and it is a long walk! You would have to arrange to pick up sleds in Laramie and trailer up with you or have them dropped off.

Another option is Snowy Mountain Lodge (snowymountainlodge.org). We stayed there 4 years ago when it was under different ownership. It has been closed for 2 years and just opened this year again. I haven't heard what it is like but you may want to check with them. Next year if everything works out we will likely stay there again. Dining room, main lodge, etc. If you have 2-3 guys though this isn't a good option - the Trapper Cabins are cold and small, but at $40/night are cheap...

There is a rental shop at SML that does rent sleds, but they are Yamaha's (snowyrangetours.com I think). Great sleds but they are heavy if you get stuck! Remember with 30% less oxygen up there, every sled seems heavy!

As others have stated, there is no gas up at the lodge (either MMC or SML) so plan on bringing 5 gallon jugs with you. We usually bring 10 gallons per sled (filled up in Laramie) and that covers 2-3 days of riding. Then we head down to Centennial (15 minute drive) one night to fill up again. If I recall gas was about $0.75 more expensive in Centennial than Laramie.

Let me know if you decide to head out and we'll have to say hi when we are out there.

Last year we went to the snowies, stayed at MMC, and instead of taking 5 gallon cans, we took a 55 gallon barrel with a hand pump, filled that up in Laramie before we headed up. Worked out sweet, no running down to Centennial, and no filling from gas cans.
