Snowmobile Battery

I have an Energizer battery that is 39 months old. Always take it out during the summer and keep charged. All fine this fall when installed on the sled. Recently dead battery! Took out to prevent from freezing and found that three of the cells were extremely low on water. Added water and recharged, which went good, and now wondering what caused the loss of water. Appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Thank you for your reply. After the recharge, the battery shows 3/4 charge and seems to be holding but the battery is on my workbench. Will see what happens when on the snowmobile!

Second the above post, "i have had good luck with a battery tender on all batteries, vehicles, toys, etc."
I have been using the same sled battery (6 years and counting) left on a mini-battery tender all year long. If you leave your sleds on the trailer that may be a challenge. If you keep them in a garage or have power nearby you are in business. The quick plug adaptor vs gator clips are easily installed directly to the battery terminals. I have a skidoo gsx, the battery is lower right side, there is enough cord to come out by the foot well for charging when it sits, but it tucks back up inside the body when riding. Worst case is you have to open the side panel or hood to get it on charge. Well worth the $40.

I just pull the batteries out at the end of the season, hook them up to a tender and add water when needed, and they will last.
just make sure the cells dont go dry.
