If you have a phone running android or iOS download "Polaris Snow Trails" from what I have found it is pretty accurate.

It has all of the trails in the lower 48 on it overlayed on a google street map, and will put you on it as well.

Best part, the app is free...

I have it on my iPhone. First season with it though. Good to hear it is semi accurate

I just bought the Red Pine Mapping software to run in my Garmin Nuvi. No snow yet here, but from what I saw online and what is on the GPS, it looks good.

Did you read what you allow that Polaris application to do? Take a quick read in the permissions and you will see. It's allowed to make phone calls without your approval or intervention, it can take pictures/videos to see what ever the camera sees and it tracks you. Ah, NO THANKS!

Great, a free app!
Got the app, installed it on my iP4.
Q: Where are the trails? I see no trails shown in the app?
I do get a popup that says:
Location Unavailable
Location services are not enabled on this device.
[OK]

1. Allowing the app to see my location (in Phoenix, AZ) seems a bit pointless; I just wanted to see "all of the trails in the lower 48 on it overlayed on a google street map".

2. Changing my settings to allow the app to use Location Services of course causes the app to put my location in the center of the map. Utterly pointless, of course, but that's what I get.

3. Scrolling the map to 'da UP' moves the map, but still shows no trails.

So where are the trails?

Click on the snowmobile icon on the bottom right.

OK, when I do that I get a screen that looks like so:

[Edit] … … … … … … … … … … … … … My Routes

ʘ (← black circle with white '+') New Route
Saved Routes

No, I do not want to add a "New Route", I want to see the predefined routes, as indicated in blutooth's previous post. (Where are they hiding?):

And of course if I click on the "Add" button on the above screen, I get a screen that looks like so:

[Cancel] … … … … … … … … … … … … … Route Tracker … … … … … … … … … … … … … [Map]
0.0 mi.

Tracking? No, I don't want to record a new track either!

Where are those predefined trails hiding?

I don't know then. Click on the weather screen. Then use the snowmobile icon. Otherwise delete it and redownload it.

The routes screen you got is because you clicked on the routes button which is directly below the snowmobile icon. Make sure u select the weather tab then the snowmobile icon. There aren't many trails posted in Illinois. Look in wisconsin for all the little red lines. Those are the trails.

Eureka!

After deleting and re-installing the app, I did as you said. At first I was staring at a blank screen, then I changed the "Layers" (icon looks like a little stack of three sheets of paper) to set Map Type to Hybrid.

When the hybrid map finally came up I was looking at waterin the ocean off the African coast, south of Ghana! (I guess that's what I get for not allowing it to use my location. :) )

From there I was able to zoom out (iPhone 'pinch'), then scroll across the Atlantic to Wisconsin/Michigan, then I clicked on the snowmobile icon ('Tis a bit difficult to hit those icons with a fat finger.)

Then … after a significant pause … what do I see but snowmobile trails! — Fantastic!

Thanks for the help!
