Snowmobile registration

Does your snowmobile need to be registered from your home state when snowmobiling in Michigan? Just wondering if having the Michigan trail pass and no other registration is legal for riding the trails in Michigan?
Thanks guys

Nope. Needs to be registered in home/residence state, or Michigan. Cheaper to do that than getting caught without.

That works as long as there is a current valid registration on it you should not have a problem. The Mi DNR site (page) says, a non-resident must display valid registration from another state.
It doesn't actually say "home" state.

No home State registration = a trip to the Valkenvania Courthouse in Wakefield to see the Magistrate who has less education than you do.

Don't get caught riding in Illinois with a Wisconsin registration. They will give you a ticket for not having registered in your home state.

Why would you not register in your home state? The money goes to help the state trails and clubs. I know a lot of people ride out of state but there could be times you do ride in state. To me it is a small price compared to what you pay for the cost to ride in another state.

I do same as Apex, I live in Illinois and register in WI for 2 reasons. One, I ride in WI/UP exclusively and I want my money to support the trail system that I ride in and the services they provide. 2. Illinois does not groom in the area that I live, they used to, and I don't want them to collect my tax dollars and offer me nothing. there are trails further north but I don't ride them. Also, as an Illinois resident, the state can't put one foot in front of the other without messing something up. if you want something done wrong, have Illinois do it.

I do the same thing. I agree totally. This state is pitiful.

I have IL & WI registrations on my sled and actually had a MI DNR officer ask me why. He told me they don't care where you live, as long as there is a state registration from somewhere on the sled, you're good to go.

Wisconsin loves that IL Resident registering in Wi and Wi Sales tax is cheaper than IL and your Wi Trail pass is also cheaper than a IL registered Sled.

not sure about your state but definitely check I would....in Indiana you can be registered in any state...BUT....you cannot go on ANY BODY OF WATER...FROZEN OR NOT...without the Indiana boat sticker...which happens to be the sled sticker too...and the ATV sticker also...it looks like this with pic of your state and bar code scan on it....you can only go on land if you have a MI sticker and no Indiana state sticker...IF you live in Indiana...its a way to insure each state gets their dues....and you might have the same rule...I registered in MI and could not run on FROZEN LAKE SHAFER OR LAKE FREEMAN without the Indiana boat sticker.....FYI...your ATV must display one also to go on a body of FROZEN water....you will get a ticket...if you haven't yet...its just because a DNR guy has not stopped you yet on a lake to check it all

Live in IL, only register in WI. Never had a problem. Gave up on the IL sticker years ago. Doesn't snow here anymore anyway.
