so let's see how we can all stay in touch on this thread. How many of you out there own, atv's, utv's or dirt bikes and are just as crazy about this form of riding as you are about snowmobiling. Do you plan your trips ahead of time, do you let weather and trail conditions effect you as much as you do in the winter? Are you aware of all the trails this area has to offer and the unique side attractions there are, such as mine tours and panning for local gem stones, with access right off the trail, waterfalls and hiking trails, let's not for get about the Paulding light! Local businesses that do rentals just like they do snowmobiles, you would be amazed at how different the terrian looks in the summer compared to winter, your favorite riding places would or may not even be reconizable to you. Come on up and enjoy your favorite places , summer is great but to me fall is the best, thE colors, the weather conditions, and it's 1 step closer to WINTER my 2nd favorite time of year, and hunting isn't to bad here either !

Hi, where would be some places to rent ATV's in the western U.P.? Are there any online maps I can check out for the trails? Thanks!

Don't know about online maps but there are great maps for the western UP and the keweenaw. I will have the new Mi-TRALE Western UP map available next week and I am more than happy to mail them PM if you'd like more info. The map covers, gogebic, ontonagon, houghton, baraga and iron counties. Rentals well, Land O Lakes Recreation, Pat's in Greenland, M&M Powersports, Headwaters Polaris

It's great riding like Lori said, come and check it out

Thanks Mrs.RB! We sure got lucky getting that last trip in early March up by you! Had a blast and you and Mike are great! Definitely be back. If I can get a group together to try the ATV thing I would be up for it. I will send you a PM as I'd like to see what the trails are like. Thanks again, hope you are having a good Spring!

You cant find maps for the U.P. online. They charge $5 for the maps. While I have no problem paying for the maps, it would be nice to look at a map before planning a trip. I think the UP would get more interest from the ORV community with online maps to at least browse with. Almost every WI trail has an online map, and that makes it easier to plan ahead. Once a person is there, they will buy a map anyway.

Just a suggestion to the MI-Trale folks. I know this map topic has been brought up before and its unlikely to change, but I really think it would help out with tourism to the UP.

We have a RZR and 3 atvs. We will be loading them up behind the motorhome and will be coming up this summer to the UP.

My question is, when is the best time of the warm season to avoid the bugs? Or isnt there a better time? Thanks.

I spent some time in the UP last summer and bought an ATV just for this summer. I think I like it up there more in the summer to be honest. Can't wait to come up and get some riding in.

I find the later in the summer the better to avoid insects, however this time of year is fun if you like to hit the mud! It's still pretty much bug free for now, as soon as the temps. warm up that will all change. August then it starts to die down, but the late Sept. Oct. when the nights are cool, the days warm up , colors start popping out and the rain sets in which brings us back to mud is my favorite time of year to ride. Copper Country Rentals, Dan's Recreation and I belive M & M ALL RENT atv's and utv's, those are the ones I know off hand. I think if you enjoy our area in the winter, you'll really love it in the summer and fall, it really is God's Country up here!
