Snowmobiling Eastern UP

We have been going to the Michigan Up snowmobiling for many years, making multiple trips a year. We always go back to the same area for home base, which is around the Twin Lakes area. We are thinking of trying a trip next year to the Eastern Up, somewhere around Munising. What are your thoughts on places to stay and how is the trail riding compared to the Western Up?

Are you serious Dan?!?!!? Come on now. Marquette may be a little anti. But not at all over this way. You kike cabins? Motels? In town? Out in the woods? All options are available. I can def make some recommendations. It just depends on what kind of place you like to stay at.

Trails are much improved from the nightmare stories of the past. No more private contractor grooming operation. It has all been taken over by a club with people in charge who care and want to do the right thing. So much to see on a snowmobile around here.
Many projects are underway this summer to improve trails this summer too. Over 800k going in to our system this summer alone.

Ride the Eastern UP all the time. From the Bridge to Munising, a lot of great clubs grooming a vast network of trails. Very snowmobile friendly!!! The only area I'm aware of that's not friendly is Marquette and Chocolay Township, but it's easy to navigate around them. Lots of options for lodging as well.

Munising is our favorite place in the U.P. Been going there since 1980, snowmobiling and motorcycling and never get tired of riding the area. People in and around there super friendly.

We stay at the Budget Host Inn in St. Ignace and ride North, East, and West then back to the hotel at night. Good restaurants and Casino shuttles. Voyager Inn has sled rentals available.

St.Ignace is also a great place to stage for a backpack trip. You can stage and leave your truck and trailers at the Little Bear Hockey Arena. Very safe with no problems.

Both the Hockey Arena and the Budget Host are on the trail.

Newberry is also centrally located with good lodging and sled rentals.

Also---If you decide you want to ride below the Bridge you can call the Mackinaw Bridge Authority and they will transport you and your sleds over and back.

Thanks for the info guys. We normally have 4 to 6 people in our group and prefer to stay in a cabin located near a restaurant or bar and gas. Any firsthand information about good cabins, restaurants and points of interest would be great.
