Got up there monday as the snow was taming down. I got to break in my new 2012 Pro R 800 and I will say that is the most fun I have ever had riding a sled. Never even let my buddies try it cause I could not get off the thing. Worth every penny!!!!! Had absolutley fantastic trails and low traffic until wed evening. We loaded up fri a.m and came home. The amount of traffic heading that way with trailers was insane. Glad we are able to go during the week. The trails were really getting hammered thursday and the warm temps were not helping. My hats off to the groomers as we rode almost perfect trails all week. Best trip I have had up there in a long time. Stayed at the Root Cellar and I will say I will never give them another penny. Not people persons that is for sure. Just complete jerks. THat and they must have to much money. Who calls last call at ten minutes to nine. They had 20 people at the bar and they close at 9 o'clock.... That and why wouldnt' they serve breakfast? I guess that it why the gogebic lodge is always so busy...... I have a few pics that I took that I will post later.

I second never going there again. I stayed up there last year and they called me the day before to try to get me not to come up. they also were closed before 9 every night we were there. Ownership/Management needs an overhaul. but the rooms were nice and i had no complaints there.

Sounds like you had a great time. If we don't get any snow in the next month I might have to head over there. I did get 55 miles on the new sled last week during our 4 day winter.

Slimcake,
we also went up on Monday and hit the trails at the PERFECT time - very few sleds, great snow, good weather. We left Thursday, it was getting very busy and getting warm. I rarely say a negative about businesses but I would agree about the root cellar. We only had about 8 people drinking and they called last call at 9, we were shocked. They stated specifically to go to a bar that stays open later, we close early. It is what it is I guess. We never went back. Besides closing early the lace looked quite nice though. We stayed at Gogebic Lodge, I would stay there every time, no complaints, it met every requirement that we needed. We rode 411 miles and had a great time but I bet the trails are starting to get beat by now.

We tried to make reservations there for new years eve dinner but they were booked. We stayed down the street at the gogebic shores house.

Was up riding this Fri/Sat in the UP. Headquartered at Watersmeet. Just loaded with sleds all over. Talked to people from Iowa, MN, IL & different parts of WI. Good to see so many enjoying a sport that we all love. I would have rode Sun, but had to attend a WI AWSC meeting in Tomahawk. See you on the trail.

We were over in the central UP, found good snow, scratched the itch... We pulled out Sat morning, due to the melt & refreeze. The streets were tough to get around on , in town. I also wish those darn campers would quit throwing their old matresses out in the National Forest..... They kind of ruin it for everyone ( LOL ) well espesially since I found one under the snow with my ski. Fortunately I had the camera so no-one thought of taking a pic of me & my sled on it's side...... The trails were ice when we left, and we still had seen trailer after trailer heading up on Sat morning...

This is so typical of many businesses in the U.P. My favorite restaurant around Iron River MI just closed last week. On a typical Friday/Saturday night, they were closing up the kitchen at 8:30 and kicking people out the door at 9:00 p.m.The U.P. business slogan is 'We want your money, but to **** with you!" Don't complain your economy sucks, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Glad you had a nice trip.
