Just learned I have a great honor bestowed on me.
The National Flag Foundation, Pittsburgh sent an American Flag to fly over our foreign cemeteries; all 26 of them. I knew we had a few but not that many. My father was KIA in the Battle of the Bulge offensive and buried in one before my grandparents requested his return. I was 7 months old when he died and about 4 years old when they returned his body.
Sorry, but I’m getting away from the story. After flying over our overseas cemeteries, it was flown back here and has traveled or will travel to all 50 states. It was in Wisconsin on March 3rd where is flew over Highground just outside of Neillsville. It may have flown over other destinations in WI but I don’t know. Eventually it will return to Pittsburgh.
On July 4th, 250 American Legion Riders from all over, with a police escort, will travel to Washington DC. There that flag will be presented to the 250th Anniversary Committee to be flown over the Capitol.
I’m one of the 250 riders. Needless to say I‘m honored and excited. As far as I know, 6 of us will be traveling from Wisconsin, we leave on July 2nd.
