A northern Michigan factory went from making car parts to making parts for jet engines -- and the move is paying off.

Skilled Manufacturing of Traverse City landed a multi million dollar loan to expand and add new jobs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is providing S.M.I. with nearly 7.8 million dollars in loans.

The company can now retool its plant, buy new equipment, and add about 75 jobs. The expansion will allow the company to keep up with the demand to make parts to jet engines.

President of D.M.I., Dodd Russell, says this year the plant will experience about a 20-percent growth in workload.

" Today is probably one best things that's happened in my career," he says of the announcement of the government backed loans.

I am real happy Skilled got the loan to work with.
But I wonder what agriculture equipment uses a jet engine. Maybe a turbine powered water pump?
