South lake effect

Hi John,

I've noticed several times that when the wind blows out of the south and I'm at our place in Wetmore that we get snow.

When you're on Route 2 which goes along Lake Michigan I have to drive about 20 miles North to get to our place which is actually another 16 or so miles South of Wetmore.

Is this LES? I have also seen a lot of 'squalls' on our way home going to the big mac along US2. I didn't think that a southerly wind could produce LES but I think I read in your forecast something about this.

Yep, if the air is cold enough and other atmospheric conditions are favorable, then south winds blowing over Lake Michigan will produce lake effect snow in the central UP. It typically does not reach as far north as M 28, but can from time to time.
