speed limit

Is there a speed limit in the UP, I've been up there several years and never go by any DNR folks looking to write up tickets.

No designated speed limit in Michigan. Wisconsin has 55mph from dusk till dawn.

Wish it was still so simple. Some trails are getting posted speed limits such as Chocolat twps. has and the Indian River to Cheboygan trail has. Also on the roads it is the posted speed limit. Paradise, MI heavily inforces that one. And there are speed limits around Ice fishing shanties and fishermen. Along with the law stating "A safe and reasonable speed". So we do have speed limits and some are more vague than others.

Once you get in to Houghton, from the south end anyways, there is a 10 or 15 mph speed limit on the trail that runs along the canal to the lift bridge. I have seen the cods radaring that area before.

Also you have a speed limit of "no faster than what it takes to move a snowmobile forward, within 100' of a residence between the hrs. of 12am and 6 am". Such as the alley through Newberry.

The answer is NO for the UP. LocalState, fishing, lake.. well lots of speed limits statewide. But none specific for the UP from the LP. DNR site has the info.

Keep in mind, that many trails in Michigan are on seasonal unplowed roads. When riding that portion of the trail, the speed limit is the same as what the road speedlimit is.

opinions are just that. opinions.

seeing they are begin stated....i think MI should have speed limits. At least something.

Or maybe there shouldn't be. We can weed out the smart ones via natural selcetion that think 100mph is cool, then take a pic of it...

Sorry Skylar but I have to ask this; how do the cods radar from underneath the surface of the water? I assume you met the cod fish, right? ;)

Theres no 55mph limit on ALL inland lakes for sleds thats for watercraft. Its unlimted with inreason,( conditions, too close, too many people standing around, waterskipping ect). for sleds.

I think it is somewhere between 200 and 400 mph...and if you can go that fast, why are you worried???

BTW what type of casket do you prefer...wood or full metal jacket?

I saw a guy a couple years ago crawl a tree with his sled on the north end of bridge. The DNR was everywhere. He ended up with an alcohol related ticket. We sat and kind of watched the whole thing. The guy was arguing with the DNR with his sled all messed up and was obviously drunk. Never saw a guy make such a complete idiot out of himself. Be very careful and OBEY the speed limit. The DNR seems to always be around this area.

Hehe... I love the yearly speed limit thread.... Keep this going all winter...

Also, let's all just throw our ideas of what the speed limit is rather than actually looking up the laws. This is what happens yearly, and I love to read all the whacky ideas.

Wife and I were stopped by MI DNR about 7pm on 12/26 doing a registration check on the Bill Nichols Trail across from Krupp's. Not knowing, I asked him if MI had a nighttime speed limit like WI does. The warden's reply was that there is no nighttime speed limit; just to ride "at a safe and reasonable speed". So I guess that really leaves it up to everyone's differing opinions or interpretation of safe and reasonable....

I always thought the speed limit was all in your jetting, clutch settings, track, and snow conditions! That and the handlebar! That thing keeps stopping my thumb throtle:)
