Sportsman 500 question

Got a question for al you ATV guys out there. I have a 2001 Sportsman 500 that leaks gas from the carb. It has a small hose coming out from near the bowl on the carb with what looks like a small plastic check valve or something at the end of it. Gas is dripping out the end of that. Does anybody know what that is and if it's supposed to do that? is it as simple as replacing that little valve?

Also, anybody ever replace a starter on one of these? Mine has issues and I found new ones on line for $45 instead of the $300+ Polaris charges.

Thanks!

If the carb is anything like a mikuni round slide, it's just a drain hose for the float bowl. Just replace it with a short piece of fuel line. No ck valve at the end of it, it's just a plug.

Can't help ya with the starter issue.

The inlet needle and seat inside is leaking. The carb needs to come off and replace the needle and seat. as far as the starter, yes it can be replace with out removing the pto covers, takes some patience but can be done.

I was thinking that was what it was. It's not the drain off the bowl, it looks like a breather/vent. It looks like the seat is bad and the bowl is filling up, or the float is stuck and allowing it to fill up.

Thanks!
