usually there is oil. I have the same sled. I remove and clean them every year regardless of miles. One season can build up carbon on them.

Take the cover off of the servo motor. You can pull each of the wires individually to see if they feel smooth and travel the full distance they are supposed to booth ways.
Also, if your valves cables have pulled through the end. There are folks on totalyamaha.net that machine-grind the end off and weld on a new one. Some thing like 20$ instead of full price from the dealership.
