St Germain area

Was up in the Minocqua/Lake Tomahawk/Harshaw area Dec 30 - 31. Trails were better than I expected; RR grades were groomed and smooth since with the lower snow amount they didn't get too bumpy. Twisties in the woods were worse, since the lower snow amount didn't fill in all the ruts/low spots. Put on 200 miles so it was rideable - not perfect, but still was riding in December!

rode st germain, arb and lk tom trails today...all were fair-good, some even very good...lk tom fair to poor, as usual....groomers are doing their best after a heavy holiday week...some snow possible next week..... a couple inches would go a long way.....we need it......its very cold this week, that helps too ......
wed thurs no traffic.....and ride early.....

My family trip to the north woods is next Wednesday ( 10-11). How are the trails around St Germain.

I have a house in St. G .....rode over 700 miles from 12/25-01/02 .... 75% trails awesome, 25% early season and in/out of town a little bumpy at days end..... get up there and enjoy.

My in-laws live in St. Germain so housing is free and I have Friday already off of work...with that said, is it worth it for me to go up and ride this Friday and Saturday? Even if I don't put on a ton of miles (150 between the two days would be a good goal based on conditions)? My biggest concern would be with loose snow for cooling.

cooling/lube is a concern for the weekend, for sure.......you would have to pick and choose less traveled trails....its cold and dry now...
if we get an inch or two, you would prob be ok,.....but get on the trails early when the groomers are done....
Mon-Thurs you may only see a few sleds all day, by Friday afternoon it all changes.........just my .02

Rode Friday and Saturday out of St. Germain. Friday we went up Phelps way, and then Sat ran up to Manitowish Waters. I'd give the trails about an 8 out of 10. Only rough stuff we saw was around Boulder Junction.

Truthfully...I was AMAZED at how good the trails were, considering their condition when I left the previous Sunday after the holiday week. Hats off to the groomers!

Couple inches of fresh to help out in some of the blown out corners and add some lube to the roads and they will be PERFECT.

Go ride!

I rode 95 miles on Friday (East of StG, to Star Lake, to Conover, to Lando). Even at 11am I had untouched ribbon. Saturday I rode 75 miles...from StG towards Pope's, but felt it was getting thinner. I had planned to go to MW. I turned south and looped back around to Slo's then back to StG. Only one section did I hear some gravel east of bib arb lake. The only icey corners (very few) I found were north of Conover (north of hwy K - Snow more sugary not holding a good groom imo) and on ER's section of Corridor 10 east/north of the Hwy G crossing. With 3-6 inches of snow over the next couple of days I would not hesitate to go ride any portion of vilas/onieda.

Agree- trails should be in great shape with any additional snow that they are getting. Get ready for a busy holiday weekend up there!!!

Anyone have an update at all after the warm up?
Supposed to be heading up Feb-3rd weekend and looking like I might head further north.

I was up in St. G all weekend (didn't ride though) .........trials were holding up better than I expected, and with cold weather and snow coming this week, the trails will be great......I will be going back up to ride Thurs-Sun.....I will let you know 110% next Monday.....as of now, still go.

Was up in Eagle River for the Derby. Rode Thursday, started out ok but was junk by evening. Rode thru 5 miles of mud coming out of Boulder Junction heading towards Star Lake. Never rode again as it rained/misted the rest of the week. Gonna take more than whats predicted to get it even close to what they were. We need some extreme cold to freeze things back up. Temps in the 30's till Thursday isn't gonna help much in that dept. This "grin and bear it" thaw was more of a "bend over and take it" thaw...Guess we should get used to it...happens every year. Only gets longer..

Would definitely appreciate that. I keep hearing it's all snirt and mud getting in and out of towns. I just dont want to ride a dirtbike track all weekend to get into the woods
All I'm seeing for snow is snow showers with less than an inch a few days. Hopefully something bigger blows through with like 6"+

I ride out of St. G 4-5 thousand miles a winter, in my opinion, the trails were worse over Christmas/new years week this year than they were yesterday when I left town..... yes, town is brown (as it usually is after a weekend) but not mud or burned down....... the trails from bar/bar have more ware, I'll report back soon.
