St. Ignace - Mackinac Ice Bridge

Does anyone know if the Christmas trees are up on the ice bridge to Mackinac Island? I say the USCG report from two weeks ago that the waters between St. Ignace and the island were frozen over and were now closed for the winter. Without a ton of snow and the very frigid temps, I'd expect that they were making ice rapidly - but getting information about the area's current conditions from on-line sources is always difficult. Any good intel or info would be greatly appreciated!

No trees up yet but some locals have started crossing. Keep in mind that that ice can open up at any time with as little ice as there is at this point.
My opinion is don’t do it.
I have crossed in past years but there was lots of ice.

Thank you for the info! I'll check back in a couple of weeks, if you don't mind. We wouldn't do it unless there's lots of traffic.

I saw two separate Facebook posts about the ice bridge. The first was from a couple snowmobilers that crossed and pretty much feared for their lives. Open water, ice heaves, etc... One flipped their snowmobile. Sounds like it was a terrible experience. The second post I saw someone went through the ice on a snowmobile. Sounded like everyone was ok.

Glad everyone is ok. If a sled goes through in that area, how do you get it out if it goes to the bottom? Looks like it is about 80 feet deep there.
