Did a backpack trip starting in St. Ignace in 2005 that was awesome. (St. Ignace, Paradise, Munising, Manistique and back to St. Ignace) I am planning to do it again January 28th. How are the conditions? Am I dreaming?
Manistique might be an issue. St. Ignace was thin but ridable last week. They got snow yesterday so should be better.
Maybe skip Manistique and stay @ Big Bay or Ishpeming instead. There are lots of routes north of M28 to do so you're not riding the same trails twice.
I was told Manistique got pounded the other day. South wind LES I believe. They had the groomer out over there too. This was on Sunday when my bro was coming back south. There was nothing North but when he got to route 2 going toward Manistique it was whiteout.
I'd say you could do with pretty decent conditions.
