Had a friend burn up his new 800 summit, dealer says it was from bad fuel I'm just curious if star tron would have prevented this problem. or what everybody else are using.

Interested to know what they meant by "bad" fuel? Did it contain ethanol? Was there water in the fuel?

I presume the fuel would have been "fresh" fuel, not some that had been setting for a period of time where it had time to go bad?

If the fuel was bad from the start, I don't know of any product that could turn it back into "good" fuel, but Star Tron is claimed to be one of the better products to slow the breakdown of fuels containing ethanol. Marine-grade Sta-bil is another.

Sucks especially when you have a brand new sled to have this happen, hope the dealer is right in the diagnosis of the cause of the burn down.

Sea Foam

Checked on the Sea Foam website, found some info in the FAQ's area:

http://www.seafoamsales.com/gasoline-engine-faqs.html#nogo

They state that their product is safe to use with ethanol-blend fuels, said to control phase separation, and remove moisture from the fuel & fuel lines as well.

Go to the link and read the info if interested.

As 3_old_jags says it is to be a "do it all" product.

i use star tron and yes it works great, the site says 1oz. of star tron will stabilize fuel in your tank on your sled for 2 years, but anybody that would have the same fuel for that long in there sled should get out of the sport i would think, i think its similar to sea foam

I'm a Seafoam fan, so don't take this wrong . SF contains 2-Proponal which is a form of alcohol. It's about 20% by volume , if I remember the research I did earlier this year. Not a big deal but I have decided to try Star Tron . Some say it's the NEW snake-oil. Best ( IMO ) to use premium without ethanol or at the least fresh gas . If the sleds sit for 2 weeks ..... like now ( @#$%& ), I have added ST. I'm never sure what kind of gas I'm buying when on trips. Another wise choice I make ( found out the hard way ) is NOT to get gas while the " tanker " is filling the tanks.

I found out about star-tron from a marina guy, said to make sure to use it for the boat. I used it all summer and now I'm using it in all the engine things that sit for more than a week. Once of prevention...........

I have never used Star tron/ Star brite. However, I have been using Sea Foam in Jet skis, boat, lawn mower, weed eater and sleds for years with success. As far as premium gas Arctic cat recommends 87 octane minimum or higher with a note that in many areas ethanol is added ( I elect to save my money and run 87). As a side note the 87 octane and 89 octane fuels in our area are the same. Have a friend that delivers gas and he says never buy the mid grade 89 as it is the same fuel as the 87.

frnash : yes that's what I meant. I looked the MSDS up earlier this year but could not remember for sure . So I just picked up my can and looked up the ingredients. Like I said, some say it's the 'new snake oil" but for now I'm giving it a shot. The jury is still out on the rejuvenating old fuel claim they make. Before I believe that, I have to see some phase seperated fuel magically blend itself back together after adding some ST. With a chemist from the petroleum industry checking it and telling me " it's all good ".
