Electric Start
Some primary clutches you can bolt on the ring gear that the starter's pinion will engage. Other kits come with a new primary clutch with the ring gear already installed. In either case you will need the propery clutch puller, which is basically a long bolt that forces the clutch off the engine's output shaft, to remove the clutch. A trick for this process is to pump some grease into the clutch bolt hole before inserting the clutch puller. This uses hydraulic pressure instead of mechanical pressure which grinds the end of the puller into the end of the output shaft.
Make sure you get the right kit for the chassis you have. The Edge and Gen II chassis use some different parts. Somehow I won a bid on eBay which was the kit for the Gen II chassis and not the Edge. I had to order the right battery holder; it is significantly different. Also, the bendix gear housing was removed for the Edge models, which made bolting on the one for the Gen II almost impossible because of clearances between the engine and the belly pan. I changed around the set-up and used a stud and nut instead of a bolt to connect the housing to the engine block.
I installed that on an Edge 500 XC. It is pretty easy if you follow the instructions, have the right kit and the right tools. A torque wrench is a must for installing the clutch bolt. Use blue Loctite wherever the instructions tell you to, which is pretty much everywhere.
Electric Start is a great thing to have. Good Luck. You can do it.
