starter spring

Have an 06 Ski Doo renegade with electric start. There is a spring just behing the gear on the end of the shaft that that is worn out and lets the shaft "float" out at mid rpm and grinds the ring gear on the clutch. I would like to replace the spring but cant find a source or part number. The starter works just fine and I really dont want to replace the whole starter for a .75cent spring. The spring itself fits over a shaft thats about 1/2 in in diameter and a little over 1 inch long. I don't have the exact dimensions as the sled is at my place in the U.P.

Being that you don't have the "spring in hand" you need to improvise. I have 2 options here, and I would say I favor the second ! # 1) do a search on " doo talk " see if someone found out who the supplier is. # 2 ) contact "jimfsr" send him a private message or an e-mail using this forums features. He has a sled shop and from the looks of it has modded a few sleds. I bet he would be the kind of guy willing to help you out or point you in the right direction. He might have a spring just laying around. He is in the Grand Rapids area like yourself. From what I have seen with sleds and jetski's the starters are real similar if not the same.

Check with a local starter/alternator repair shop. Most I have been to have benches and drawers full of "extra" parts.

Don't let it go too long, my friend did and had to replace his ring gear also. The ring gear was about $225!!

Do you by chance happen to have a Donzi Classic or is that just your John Dees handle?

Yes I have a Donzi. It's a 22 Classic with a 454 Magnum in it. It's the 3rd one I've owned. This one is a 95 and I have owned it since 96. It gets a lot of attention where ever I take it. Do you have one or are you looking for one?
