Steerable dollies

Hey,

I'm looking for a decent set of dollies that I can use to load and unload the sleds. I was going to be using ski guides but since I'm going to be hauling ATVs as well I thought I would look into this as an option. Are there any other options other than the Sure Grips?

Thanks

If I'm reading that right they want OVER $600 for a complete dolly kit? They are off their freaking rocker! That's crazy. Lol

I'm in the process of making my own steerable dollies, not really for driving around the neighborhood, but for moving in and out of the garage during no-snow. I already have a set that work all right, but the wheels are only 2" in diameter, so they don't work well unless the surface is perfectly smooth, which the entrance to my garage isn't, so I'm almost done making some with bigger wheels. Dollies are really easy to make, my first set cost about $25, my new set will end up being around $70.

With the sets I've made, they ratchet onto the skis and are pretty solid, so you can drive the sled and steer, the wheels are directional, the smaller wheels don't work very well on gravel or grass, they tend to dig in, the bigger set will be a little more usable, but will lift the front of the sled quite a bit higher. With my sets, the wheels are below the skis, but they still work pretty well.

I use the mini four wheel moving dollies they sell at Harbor Freight. On sale they cost $9.99 each, get 3, one under each ski & one under the track. You can move your sled around one handed on cement or 2 hands through a 1" or 2" of snow on the driveway. $30 bucks total, been using 3 sets for 3 years now & work good for me.

Like these under the ski's

Husky, I like that idea for the garage! But I don't think it will help my loading and unloading the trailer. I really want something on the same line as the Timbersled but I will not pay over $600 for $30 of material.

800 XC SP, I did the exact same thing and baught the same dollies from Harbor Freight. You are 100% right they work great and are very cheep. I have also used them for moving as well and put the sled on the concrete for the day. Double duty for a fraction of the cost.

The reason I made mine was because the caster type dollies aren't steerable. I used the moving dollies type for a little while, but you can't really steer at all, and can't drive the sled in and out of the garage with those.

I got my second set done today, and they work great. They are kinda similar to the TimberSled dollies, but aren't inflatable wheels, and only have two wheels per ski. I drove the sled around the yard, and they worked great. The wheels are 7 inches in diameter, and the total was a little less than I'd figured, around $50.

Anybody can make steerable dollies, it just takes a little time and a good hardware store.
